So i purchased a 120hz LCD off of ebay(Not going to namedrop the seller since the transaction isnt complete yet, will likely have to contact them in the next day or two), and the seller messaged me to confirm that it is indeed a 17 r1 im buying for, and that my laptop is compatible with a d01 screen. I tell him up and down as long as you don't send me a c01 screen i'll be fine. I recieved a VERY strange LCD today.

Anyone seen anything like this? Since it says C01 on the actual display i have a feeling it won't be fully functional, if it even works at all. Is there a way i can test the 3d function without the glasses? I want the capability to use the 3d eventually, but i dont have the spare cash to throw away $70 because a seller screwed up right now.

Are sellers even allowed to sell engineering samples? Will i run into problems using this display if i can get it to power on? Is it any more/less valuable than a standard LCD?

For reference, the label that says "d01" is on an outer bag, and the c01 label is on the display itself.

Never seen that before. I wouldn't take it. Samples are Samples .. may work great, may not.

3d only works with 780m/880m and you will also need the 3d emitter

I've got both(Device came w/ 880m and picked up the emitter for cheap). I suppose since im intending to upgrade this to the 1070 eventually i might as well not worry about the 3D, kinda wanted to see what it looked like though. Is there a way to test if the emitter is working without the glasses?

I have no idea, I never had any intention to try 3d since the 780m barely copes with today's games.

ES stuff is usually fine as long as specs didn't change. Often the rev is a cosmetic letter change.

So this is likely somewhere between late C01 and early D01, maybe a test batch of what would be D01?

Once you install a compatible GPU and install a valid GPU driver , You can go into setting to setup 3D to find out if the emitter is working. If the emitter is not detected, you can't set up 3D.
