I am wondering what I am going to put my M17x on when I get it?
The M17x might be big, but I can handle using it for a short period of time on my lap.

The best ever lapdesk I have even owned is the Logitech N315, but this is only good for upto 15.6" laptops.

    Portable Lapdesk N315

Does anyone know where I can get a 17" version of a simular lapdesk?
Must be same thin and flat design.

That one doesn't look to good.

The only thing I can find, but isn't flat is this:

    Targus | AWE5504AU – Targus Lap Chill Mat™

This might be ok, but no rubber surface to hold the laptop on. Must be flat like the logitech design. :(

Yep, won't be on lap for long, just to enjoy a quick game session on the couch.

This is the one I have and I love it. The top grill does have rubber feet and the laptop stays firm when I play it and the slope and give of the setup makes it feel very natural and comfortable in your lap. Also sits nice on the desk as well.

I use the same N315 and I love it too. I wish there was a larger version as well. Just a note however, before you run out and buy a new model you may want to at least try it with the R3.

I use mine with a Latitude D620 (14") right now but also with an HP 8720 which is a monster 1920x1200 17" machine. It actually just barely fits on the N315.

My ship date is not until 4/7/2011, so I plan to keep my eyes pealed for a larger version as well, but the R3 may just fit ...

Good advice, I haven't got my M17x yet, although they charged me right away.
Was wondering if the M17x may only just fit on the rubber feet underneth the notebook? Time will tell, when I get the thing

I use mine with 12 - 15.6" notebooks. It really doesn't matter about the size, it more about keeping the vents open underneth the notebook, and the heat directly off your legs.

Great things about the N315, is it's totally flat, no gimmick fans, rubber grip surface, and is light weight. :D

The M17x R3 totally engulfs the Logitech N315 lapdesk, therefore it sits flat underneath the notebook, blocking all air vents between the M17x R3 rubber feet.

When looking at the measurements the Targus Lap Chill Mat is only 15.1" long. The M17x R3 is 16.25" Long, and with its rubber feet very close to the edge of the notebook, I am not sure it will fit with enough space, if at all.

Does the M17x R3 fit even fit on the Targus Lap Chill Mat ?

Hope someone can answer this, as I would likely buy one tomorrow. I am not that keen on it, and it is a bit heavy (also not flat), but looks like my only offering at this stage.

Sadly, I totally concur. I received my R3 yesterday and all evening, I was sitting with it on my lap with no lapdesk, it was hot and I was blocking the cooling vents.

I am sad about the N315, I love that little table! I am going to run over to Best Buy from work today and look for anything big enough to suffice for the time being.

My 7811FX is 15.7" wide, the m17x R3 is 16.14". My 7811FX overhangs the sides a tiny bit, but has served me extremely well. It will fit the M17x R3 easily height-wise.

So, it fits, depending on your definition of "fit". If you want extra space on the sides, no.

I do not find it heavy at all, and the foam on it makes it pretty comfortable.

    T2050,

I went to Office Depot today and bought this Belkin Laptop CushDesk for 19.99 plus tax.

It's not a Logitech N515 ;-) but it seems pretty nice and it is the perfect size for an M17x-R3.

Here are few pics of my R3 sitting on the CushDesk:

First off thanks for your posts :)

I got the Targus Chill Mat today, the R3 does overhang the sides of the Targus. Therefore any chance of the R3 rubber feet making contact with the lapdesk is out of the question. The weight of the R3 on the Targus is heavy, the desk does not seem to be build for it really, likely more for the Dell D630 that was shown in the advertisment photo's, which I also own and fits that laptop perfectly without any heavy weight flex.
At this stage I will try it out tonight with the R3, although I am uncertain if this is recommended for such a big and heavy laptop (no feet contact possible, way to much flex, and slips a little).

This one looks great, it is about the same shape as the Targus Chill Mat, with some room to spare.
It really looks like a good solution, without all the other crap like fans and weird add-ons that other lapdesks offer.
I really want to get it, but it is out of stock in New Zealand. The Belkin product was released in June 2010, I am figuring that it has been discontinued. Is there any thing simular that you or anyone else can recommend?

Ok done some testing with the Targus Chill Mat, and also with the Logitech N315 surprisingly after a slight modification to the underside of the R3.

I found that the Targus was fine and actually dropped temperatures down a few degrees compared to using the laptop just on the table. When using the USB fan, temperatures were about the same without using the fan. Great thing about the Targus is that the exhaust heat from the M17x is directed upwards, therefore does not blast hot air onto your legs.

Logitech N315 actually was usable, only after I put my own stick on feet on the M17x R3 underside. The performance was not as good as just using it on the table, but that only was because the feet I used was low profile. The Logitech was just as nice to use as ever. One problem is that the heat from the M17x R3 fans blasts out over your legs, therefore any flat lapdesk solution may not be of any use unless you plan to use it without any load, which will defeat the purpose of owning a R3.

I have the Logitech N700. My M17x R2 fits on top of it fine, although the lapdesk speakers are partially obscured. The speakers on the N700 are much better than the M17x, and the fan on it works well.
