Hi guys, I got a Alienware M17x-R2 and wanted to know about speaker configurations. Appparently I can have 5.1 surround but the only problem is that I want to have the Laptop as my front L and R speakers, the side and rear as 3.5mm jack inputs. When I try to put a jack into the centre or rear, all laptop sound is directed into the external speakers. I still want to be able to use the laptop speakers with existing external speakers. Is there a sound manager or driver which can allow me to do this?
    Cheers

I don't know if it's possible without getting into mobo level but why would you want LR speakers to be the laptop's speakers? They suck and they're not imaging at all. Using them in 5.1 system ruins the whole point of the system IMO.

I dont think its possible because the external 5.1 outputs and the outputs to internal speakers are two different output systems. You cant use part of this and part of that, just like I cant have my gf's mind in a hot chick's body.

Btw, even if is is possible, i agree with sillyhoney. I dont think that would be a good idea. The quality of internal speakers and external ones would not be the same - that certainly would affect ur sound quality, especially because front left/right speakers are more important than the rear ones. If you dont want to spend too much money, just buy a used/cheap 5.1 system.

Thanks for your help, I just wanted this because I gave my front speakers to my little sister since she doesn't have one and I had excess so I thought I could use the laptop speakers in conjunction with the external. Once again thanks a lot you guys.
