Thanks, I am realizing that as I install/check the other drivers. I guess these version numbers are more art than science.

ITE is the Infrared Sensor for IR Remote.

You need to have chipset installed before you can install most of the drivers on the list.

    Hi Grimfan.
phewww! Finally, all drivers installed, vbios flashed. Now time to install some kick AR_ _ games

And yes, this thread should definitely be a sticky because as and when Drivers get updated on the Dell Support site, we all can look forward to this thread.

    THANK YOU GRIM :)

Quick quest: Can I install the ATI application profiles on top of Dell display drivers?

My BC2 is in constant crash mode and I want to try one last fix before I get back onto Dell and ask for NVidia replacements.

Did you try uninstalling ALL Microsoft C++ Redistributables and install the latest 2010 ones?

And good luck with Nvidia Cards, you will need it lol

I had a similar problem with this driver .... fresh OS install, drivers in order chipset / video then the rest....went to do the infra red one and it said unsuccessful - hmmmm?

Also, just noticed , my windows update is showing two optional updates, one FOR the ITE and one for my Bluetooth 370 card...

Do I need to do these - windows update reports them as software updates so would I be advised to install them? LOL

    What's this you say?

I would prefer to stick with ATI but the simple fact is I spend more time trying to fix my ATI cards than playing games..... and when I do get to play it crashes :( At this point I simply want to install a driver and play games. No messing about.

Grim could you be a dear and give me a few simple steps to uninstall the C++ distributables, find the new ones, and install? This wont mess up other programs on my laptop will it?

get rid of all of these?

Well if it's an update, then yes install them, i usually don't even look that close what windows installs. But i have like all of them installed.

Yeah i currently only have the 2008 .4148 ones installed (after uninstalling all, these came back with a windows update later) and the 2010 C++ redistributable.

Had already d/l driversweeper so rebooted into safe mode to run it as admin but i keep getting an error message from driversweeper....display manager still shows radeon 5870 and not standard vga...

What the heck is going on and how do i run driver sweeper without errors.....

I have no clue what you are doing o_O

What are you trying to do? Which Driver Sweeper Version are you using, what did you try to install from the list that does not work?

Also you don't have to use DriverSweeper in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is when you got BSOD's and you can't remove the drivers manually.

Edit: Ah missed your earlier post. Yes correct Express Uninstall, if there is still Radeon in Device Manager, Uninstall it there (right click) and reboot until it is VGA (maybe takes some few attempts), then install A01 Driver Package.

Ive downloaded driver sweeper 2.5.0 from guru3d...have saved the .exe and then run it as admin...it seems to install fine but everytime i try and run it (safe mode or not) i comes up with the above error message.

I click the check box for ati, cliclk analyze and thats what i get...

I click clan and thats what i get...

Doing my head in, dont know why i cant run it!

Uninstalled ccc too but that is still showing as 5870 in device manager, shouldnt it be vga?

Not if you had A00 drivers before installed or if it's a factory install. Then you need to uninstall manually in device manager until you are on VGA, but did you try to just run A01 Dell Drivers once and see if they install?

Edit: I thought you did a clean windows install anyway, no?

not on this system grim, its as is from the factory.

    current drivers 8.692

I uninstalled ccc using express uninstall but do i have to uninstall the drivers manually from device manager?

What about driver sweeper, why isnt it working?

I thought the thing was to run driver sweeper to clean the old crap out....do i have to manually uninstall before it will clean the old 8.692 drivers or is it beacuse they are dell drivers that is causing driver sweeper to not run?

Hvent tried installing any drivers yet as i wanted to be free from older drivers - i thought the routine was to uninstall - driversweeper - ccleaner reinstall new drivers - run vbios

I don't know, could be anything with those messed up factory defaults. Seriously, leave that factory image on the side and install from scratch. If you want to use the latest drivers with the latest vbios, then i can only advise you to do so aswell. I can't help you on this matter since i'm not on a factory image and i never cared less about it, got laptop, did fresh windows install, installed drivers, installed my software, runs. Never touched it, never mind it. :D

Well grim, ive installed the 8.763 now and checked that they were on both cards via device manager, they were...

After a large glass of wine, i have burned the iso image of the vbios and executed it.....more wine.......cigarrettes....more wine....lol :D

Actually seemed quite painless in the end....checked gpu-z on boh carda and both show the correct vbios number and driver number so im presuming im good to go now....

Just a pity that this system is going back to dell on thursday LOL ;)

    Just a FYI,

After doing the non beta vbios/drivers, tried the 1st game i had via steam (portal) which before had loads of lines but now they are cured...wahhaaayyyy....

I havent got a huge library of games but i will test out metro 2033 tomorrow if i get the chance, possibly arkham asylum, left for dead 2, empire total war and any others i can lay my hands on....

Oh, and the sleep/resume thing works a treat....as i guessed it would do....

Grim, i guess that driversweeper wasnt working as i didnt have ati drivers huh? just dell ones factory installed...least thats what i think anyhow.

Should i get the latest profiles from ati to use with dell 8.763?

I'm not sure about the profiles with dell drivers, they seem to have "some" profiles included for games. Also if the Steam Game is working, you can expect better support from AMD soon, now that they are offering updates via Steam for Catalyst. And Dell also seems to want to update drivers more reguraly.

I think those of you who still have issues with driver installations or facing problems with uninstalling etc... You all should definitely format and reinstall Windows along with driver updates like how Grim has shown on first page.
    It makes a worldly difference.

I think i was expecting to have to uninstall/sweep/clean but seems as i was on factory dell drivers, there isnt a need to do this, just either install on top of drivers.

I uninstalled my factory dell drivers via device manager till working on just standard vga, then installed 8.763 from dell and then flashed the non-beta vbios.

Everything went well with the flash, no hiccups, took seconds for it to carry out the flashing and it all seems to be functioning fine.

@Grim - would i be right in saying that the reason i couldnt get driversweeper to work was becasue i didnt have ati drivers installed in the 1st place eh? - maybe i was trying to do a "noob" thing and clean something that wasnt there in the first instance or would driversweeper clean the old dell driver??

Hmm, anyway, its a go-er anyway so I will try some games out now..or later on...

I went from the beta to the official dell vbios and driver hoping it would fix teh BFBC2 issue I have where it crashes to the desktop after 30 minutes or so. I still have the same issue. Was anyone else able to find a fix for this? I deleted the files from my user directory in the BFBC2 folder like was suggested in a couple of places but no luck....

    Question:

I don't really want to reformat my computer, all I would like to do is install A09, 8.763 and the non-beta vbios, will I need any particular program to help me in deleting the old stuff?

I'm not as savvy as some here so any help/advice in addition to what Grim has already posted would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

You can do the A09 Bios anytime - best to do prior to doing the video card stuff though. Thats straightforward. Just run the downloaded .exe and follow the on screen instructions.

    Reagrding the driver / vbios:

I believe if you are using Dell drivers prior to 8.763, you can install 8.763 over them. I tried driversweeper to remove any driver remnants but it didnt work (probably cos i didnt have any ati drivers in the 1st place lol  )
so you shouldnt have to use a third party programme to remove old drivers (unless someone know of a programme to remove old dell drivers??? - AFAIK, driver sweeper just does "branded" drivers)

Best bet if you have dell drivers only installed at the mo would be to uninstall them via using device manager. Pretty straightforward. You should then be left using standard vga drivers and your screen will look pretty awful for a while until you install 8.763. (large icons etc poor resolution). he goal is to get back to vga drivers.

Ati CCC can be removed by express uninstall as described above. (when you install the 8.763, it will have CCC as part of a package)

I didnt sweep any drivers as was on factory dell drivers to start but if you have installed ANY ati drivers in the past, might be a good idea to run driver sweeper from safe mode to clean the old bits away.

Once your done doing removing CCC and the old dell drivers (if you elect to uninstall them and not install OVER them), you should be fine to install the latest dell 8.763 video drivers and once you have done that, you should be ok to do the vbios.

This worked for me without any problems - its exactly what I did removed CCC express uninstall / uninstalled video drivers via device manager and then just ran the .exe for the new 8.763 package. Then it was straightforward to do the vbios flash. - hope this helps, i f you are unsure, please post back and maybe grim will confirm. (im sure you could PM him if you wanted to be double sure!)

    Hi guys
When we update the drivers, the installation files are extracted by default to
    c:\dell\drivers\R.........

After running the executeable, do we need to keep these folders where the driver installation reside?

Yep I used to get that all the time. Personally I'm not a fan of the free fall sensor. So I just disabled it. Its up to you if you want to install it or not. I couldn't even bump the table or move my notebook from room to room without it BSOD and restarting on me every single time. So I killed the free fall sensor and I'm all good now.

    Cheers. :)

That i guess (in safe mode) and delete/uninstall driver from Device Manager. Then if you can boot up normally in windows, uninstall via programs. With uninstalled drivers, the freefall sensor will be listed as unknown device in device manager.

Did you boot up normally in Windows? Did you use Driver Sweeper and CCleaner Registry Clean before installing the Drivers?

Just a little reminder again: This is best used along a fresh clean windows install. Why are you guys all troubling yourself in modifying your windows, where you could setup everything new and it should work like it's meant to be within 1-2 hours. And you also don't have to worry about any driver conflicts.

Download all Drivers in this list, save them on external HD or USB-Stick, put in your windows cd, start from cd, install windows, install drivers in order, do windows update, make a backup of your system, if its good, install your favorite software.

Did you install the Wifi driver from Dell, or did you let Windows install the driver? You should install the Dell driver.

Please make sure you got the right driver for your device (dont know if it matters) but there are 2 wireless drivers listed on this list as yu can see, WIFI6300 from Intel and Dells 1520 wireless adapter. Please provide some specifics on your system (signature would be cool).

Which Card do you have, the Dell 1520, or the Intel 6300? Make sure you install the right Driver. If it did not work from the begining, than it maybe your router/modem. Realy, just call Dell Tech Support.

NZgeek gave a great command prompt command you can use to enable and disable the free fall sensor process whenever you want.

If you do end up with random BSODs with this error code, try bringing up an admin mode command prompt and running the following command:

    Quote:
    sc config Acceler start= disabled

This will prevent the accelerometer driver from starting when you next reboot. To enable the driver again, change "disabled" to "demand".

    Cheers. :)
