Is anyone else experiencing random disconnects through the left side usb 3.0 ports? It seems to be a pysical problem, as it happens wen I move the laptop, and it takes me disconnecting and reconnecting to get windows to recognize the device again.

Not me, though I use the ports every day. I keep most of the time an 4TB external hdd (powered separately) + sometime an 1.5TB 2.5 HDD (power taken from the port). And really speaking I am surprised to notice not even once an issue with it... With the M17XR2 I always had problems including bios update but not that I am bragging about it, I am happy to notice no issues what-so-ever with the R3 from the time I got it. Opened seveal times, replaced the dvd-rw with a bluray player, changed the ram, changed the GPU and no issues, thank GOD :D

I have to power cycle my 3TB external USB3.0 drive in order for the laptop to see it.

Ofcourse you have to power it up! Your external HDD takes 12V power, while the port only offers 5V... Small drives i.e. 2.5" external usb 3.0 can take the power from the same port...

He said power CYCLE...as in restart it to get it to be recognized.

Im gonna switch the drive the the 2.0 ports and see if the problem is still there.... find out if its the cable or the ports. its a 1tb external with wall power

I had that exact problem with only my USB 3.0 ports on my first R3. The slightest movement would cause a disconnect. Very annoying. The 2.0 side worked fine though. Can't help any; but thought I would tell you I too had the 3.0 issue.

    Good luck.
