Well there's pretty much nothing available for the r3 but i wanted to start a thread anyways. Im BIG on protecting my laptops and i can tell you that if I do order another r3 I will be protecting it in a few ways.

First i want a keyboard protector to protect the screen. We all with r3s know that the screen makes contact with the base when closed to some degree. A cloth here will do wonders. Someone mentioned they found one the right size in a thread that i can't find if anyone knows it or has any links to a cloth the correct size that would be great.

Exterior protection : For one I really do like the feel of the soft touch. BUT and its a big BUT, its already starting to peel on mine in 2 places and I am freaked about scratches and ESPECIALLY wearing out the palm area to the left of the touchpad.

Ive considered hacking an old zagg shield kit I have for a mbp 17 but (and i hate to say it) im still between a new r3 or the new mbp refresh. I also dont like how the zagg is a sticky plastic where when the lid is shut it might stick with the glass screen etc.

Its going to sound dumb but Im actually considering buying 2 matte iphone 4 screen protectors and cutting them to fit the palm areas on my r3. The matte is smooth and not sticky so it should be a nice feel for my palm.

For the exterior i plan to have custom cut 3M Clear shield cut to fit the entire back of the lid, possibly the sides and the bottom as well. I will make a stencil out of something and possibly could make more if it turns out well.

if anyone has any input on products or ideas I would love to hear it.

I've contacted someone at the Zagg headquarters in Utah as I sold their products at a cell phone store I managed when they came out to see if they can either produce the InvisiShields for the R3 or if they can still sell me full sheets to do a custom cut for it. I'll let you guys know how it goes ;)

Well I've got a few contacts there still so if all else fails I should be able to get full sheets even though they no longer sell them to the public/vendors that way, it's just pretty friggin expensive that way. Doing a cell phone where you can get a bunch done with a sheet and charging $20-50 a pop isn't bad but we're probably talking around $100+/- worth of it if we have to do full sheets.

You can also buy CONTACT from homedepot. It's the faux leather kitchen liner that ppl talk about in the HP threads. I went to home depot and saw it. It's thinner than I thought it would be, but I guess it should be fine to protect from scratches. And it makes your computer look like it's made of leather (from afar) lolz. $7bucks for a huge roll.

If its decent looking and turns out well I'll be more than willing to buy a pre-cut setup.

PM me if you ever get anywhere with them selling you sheets :)

cool stuff ! Dane let us know. its not promising knowing they made NOTHING for the r2 which has been around for a while. The r2 was anodized alum so zagg could work good on it. not sure how it will stick on the rubberized coating.
