So even after I reformatted and installed the drivers windows still isn't as fast as it first was when I got the laptop, does anyone know if I can send my laptop back to dell and they can restore it back to the way it came? or even if they could send a tech?
-
-
i just got off the phone with dell tech support and in the end it was my hard drive so theyre sending me a new one with a tech to install it
-
-
He ran a few cpu tests, did a benchmark and a diagnostic during the diagnostic the hard drive had an error and during the benchmarking it had a low score
-
What kind of benchmark did he use and which diagnostic tool, do you remember?
-
I'm guessing the Dell diagnostic one from F12 boot menu.
Gee i better backup. Hope mine don't fail anytime soon.
Cheers. -
um he went of the website passmark and downloaded the performance test 7.0 and yeah just diagnostic tool is the F12 boot menu, is the same thing happening to you?
-
Oh, no i don't think i have an issue at the moment with my HDD, just curious when something would happen.
I'll try to get that benchmark and see what i get. -
Aha oh ok yeah when he saw my score he was like oh that's pretty low lol I think it was like in the 1300s low 1300s
-
Alright, installed and currently running, will post results when done.
Holy macararoni, what a weird benchmark, there is a lot of things going on randomly
Ok i have 1345 aswell, haha

haha hm did you compare it to other persons using the program? mine were basically all normal a little bit low on the 3D and really low on the HDD, the persons mine was compared to was around the 1500s
-
But hey, do you still have the same HDD's installed, or did the tech already come by? Can you post your results, export it via text file. -

this one was 1225.3 wonder why it changed -
oh and the error code i got during the diagnostics was 0146 after looking around that code does mean hard drive failure
-
Oh, really that HDD score is way off. Other differences make sense, more or less, less ram for me and pretty stuffed windows over the time i guess, so more processes
-
ah so once i get a new hard drive which should be coming Monday or Tuesday my system should be fine you think?
-
Yeah, more or less like mine then, maybe a bit lower since you have 4870s and 5400 rpm HDDs ;-)
-
haha show off ;p
-
One last thing you could try since you did a fresh install and might have forgot something to install along is the Intel Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver and enable the cache option...
-
oh i did forget that hm i guess it wasn't on the disk and i didn't think i needed it from the site, what does the cache option do?
-
It should improve the writing cache-back.
-
ah ok thanks its enabled
-
-
A bit I think lol I can't really tell though
-
I'm guessing my hard drive got damaged from overheating my laptop got pretty hot during the summer so when the tech checks it out I'm sure it'll be part melted or something haha
-
Hehe, i hope not
But well HDD's tend to become wobbly from time to time, especially when you carry your laptop alot around, even more when it's on, also i think BSOD's aren't very healthy either -
I ended up with 1450.6, not sure why mine is a little higher than yours Grim since we basically have the same system?

Well, my system is pretty packed i guess, also i was running a few things in the background (i think even torrent
), but you have more RAM, that's atleast one bonus, your disk mark score is pretty solid aswell, also as you may notice i didn't score with CD Bench and maybe something else, also from the 3D Score you have, can i assume you have Single HD5870?
I should do a another run maybe, when i cleaned up a little. -
-
Well I got my new hard drive and all is well so far
-
Long boot time...
