    Hi guys.

I've had to tape my power cable into the back of my M17x R3. It keeps coming loose which is a surprise considering the quality in every other aspect. The wall cable also comes loose at the brick so I taped that up too.

Annoying because I never knew when the cable fell out.

I now really appreciate the MacBook magnetic cable connection.

You may...MAY want to check into getting a new power brick. If it falls apart anymore it may not power your system.

As far as it coming loose, that will be with the power jack that's soldered onto the motherboard (or the round DC plug has been squished a little bit). Again, do some more investigating to find out what you will need to replace.

is the power cable or the power dc jack? I jad a power dc jack issue and it wasn't hard to solve. The jack cost as much as 6 dls and i resoldered it myself.

Clarification - The brick isn't falling apart.

I'm talking about the cable from the brick to the laptop. It often falls out from either end.

Since taping it I've had no problems but if I want to go to another room for a little while I have to take the cable with me.

Only had the laptop a couple of months. A month ago I returned to my laptop & my monitor display was all garbled & corrupt. It was a pink color but I could make out the windows on screen. I thought my laptop was dead. I turned it off & on & thankfully it started fine. I'd wondered what the cause of that problem was. In hindsight I think the cable may have come out before it happened. Maybe the loose cable caused the problem, maybe it didn't. I might start another thread regarding that problem.

Well, the cable from the brick to the laptop is supposed to be permanently attached to the brick. So if that end is falling out of the brick, can I assume that it shows the exposed inner wires when that happens? If so, I still reccommend you replace the brick as soon as you can. All those loose connections beween the connectors is just going to cause your brick to have to work harder, and will eventually cause it to burn out from being overworked.

    I have the same problem.

When using the laptop on my lap. The cable frequently comes loose from the back of the machine.

The fit needs to be more snug.

I don't know if it is because there is wear in the computer jack or if there is wear in the power cable plug.

    How can I tell?
