Hi. I upgraded the gtx 770m to gtx780m on my aw 17...and started testing it...i am using still the 2pipes heatsink and stock vbios latest drivers( but i tried like 6-7 drivers including dell drivers)...the images i will post tomorow...the score is really bad
    22.120 gpu score
    82 degrees gpu max temp
The cpu was like 75 degrees...
In 3dmark 2013 it wont work...it' uses hd 4600, 3dmark 2011 the same, i am using the laptop in high performance mode, nvidia settings are on performance...3dmarks all all using gtx780m in nvidia controler...when I start the test right click icon and "use dedicated graphics card" or something like that...I just want to make it work as it was suppose to work scores like 27-28k...in cs go it performes like gtx 770m...really sad ,my psu is 240w, gpuz show everything is ok

Firstly, do you mean the 2 pipe heatsink for the CPU? As far as in aware, the new AW 17 comes with a 3 pipe for the GPU.

Anyway, let's move on. So you've tried different drivers. Have you tried he latest beta driver? Your GPU is definitely showing in the bios isn't it? If so, have you tried a system restore?

Are you using the unlocked vBIOS from svl7. If not, fix that first. Kepler sucks with a stock vBIOS... always.

Be sure everything is set manually in NVIDIA Control Panel to focus on High performance. Any "efficient" or "adaptive" or "quality" is going to hurt performance.

Have you confirmed the box in HWiNFO64 is checked to wake disabled GPUs? That might help since the AW17 is cursed with a locked BIOS. Otherwise, you could set it PEG and be done with it for good.

    HWiNFO64 Settings.jpg

Lastly, your physics score is quite poor. What CPU do you have? Have you attempted to tune the CPU for better performance? Vantage is very CPU dependent DX10 benchmark and until you get that physics score looking better the overall score is going to be low even with the GPU rocking really hard. Until then focus more on the graphics score. I also recommend using 3DMark11 instead of Vantage because the tests have less affect on one another. You need a strong CPU with Vantage on all four tests. You will still be getting a low overall score with 3DMark11 with a weak CPU, but the weak CPU won't skew your graphics test results like it will in Vantage. Don't get me wrong, I love 3DMark Vantage, but it takes serious CPU mojo to get impressive scores.

    2.Everything is on high performance
3.Yes, I check to wake disable gpus
    4. My cpu is an i7 4700mq and I've check and the normal scores are from 7100 to 8000 points for this cpu and I have 7600..i've tested with 3dmark2011 and it is below 7000...really bad...with good cpu score...with this cpu I've got the normal score of the gtx770m 5000....and now with gtx780m I get 6800.... Intel Core i7 4700MQ Notebook Prozessor - Notebookcheck.com Technik/FAQ from 5000 to 8500 score...i've got 7661...

Posting more screen shots and expressing your results in terms of overall score, graphics score and physics score will be more helpful. If you have a moderate CPU it is important to look at them separately to have an adequate perspective on how well (or poorly) the laptop is functioning. You could have a low overall score driven by a terrible physics score (as you do) and still have a GPU that is doing an outstanding job on its own. It's really hard to make heads or tails out of undocumented number values and provide good recommendations.

Wait a minute. Looks like something else is going on here. The highlighted information from your screen shot seems to indicate a GPU problem that needs to be fixed.

I don't have an Alienware 17 to compare against, but the Bandwidth should show 160 GB/s and the Memory should match the number right beneath it.

    Untitled.png

Edit: OK, this really is not that bad considering you are running a stock vBIOS with no OC. In fact, that seems normal to me with a stock vBIOS and I am not necessarily all that surprised it is lower than your 770M. If you are comparing your GPU to someone with a modded vBIOS and even a small OC on the same GPU it will be a big difference. You definitely will not get impressive performance with a stock vBIOS on 680M, 780M or 880M.

This is not throttling from temperatures. This is totally expected and normal behavior with the stock vBIOS.

Problem #1: stock vBIOS... Look at the red graph line for the core on mine with the modded vBIOS and look at red graph line for the core on yours with a stock vBIOS.

Problem #2: even though we are running graphics tests, you still need a CPU to be awake and function correctly part of the time. Your 4700MQ is barely running 2.3GHz maximum looking at your HWiNFO64 sensors table, which will pretty much ruin any kind of performance. It is 1.0GHz lower than it should be and that's a huge problem. It's par for the course with the stock CPU power settings on a Haswell powered Alienware, so you will need to take steps to correct that as well. (Using stock BIOS settings, even the 4930MX runs that horrible.)

Solution: get the CPU running right so it at least reaches stock 3.4GHz turbo speed and grab a 780M svl7/johnksss vBIOS and I think you'll be amazed at the difference.

Using my M18xR2, here is a single 780M, no OC, modded vBIOS and my CPU choked down to an anemic 3.7GHz running Tests 1 to 4 on 3DMark11.

Tested with the new WHQL 337.88 driver. Small overclock on 78/200 = 849/1450 standard VBIOS. It is slightly lower scoore I think with the new driver. Inside temperature during the test is 26 ° degrees celcius, so it's hot in here. If I run win 7 I've probably got a higher score. Plan on a mod VBIOS after a while. I also have to buy me a bigger power supply if I modify the VBIOS and running my cpu overclocked which is now. Will not even have enough power if I modify the VBIOS. View attachment 112983

Stay with your 780m. There not enough performance increase to justify paying the price of the 880m.

There is no price to get the gtx 880m...the question is if it s worth it to get the gtx 880m insted of gtx 780m? I know that gtx 880m runs a little hoter then gtx 780m that is my conseurn.

No, it's not worth the change by any stretch of the imagination. The 780m is a great card, so is the 880m. In all honesty, not are near to exact as each other. Except one has 8gb's of VRAM and 100+MHz boost over the 780m. Over clocking bring the 780m right up on par with the 880m.
