Hello all I have been playing crysis 2 recently and I am getting low fps in game. I have the graphics in crysis 2 set to extreme with dx11 and his res textures enabled and I am only topping out at 40fps. According to this NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M - Notebookcheck.net Tech I should be getting 100fps. I have my computer set to high performance mode with ac plugged in and I also checked the nvidia control panel and set to maximum performance for graphics. I am running latest 280.26 drivers and have also updated directx. I even tried using hwinfo64 and cranked up the fans so it would keep cool. Do I possibly have a defective graphics card?? Can any other users with 580m report fps with extreme settings in 1080p with dx11 and high res enabled. Thanks. :)

You're right, I see low, med, high, and ultra

    Crysis 2 (2011)
    low:
    189.1 fps Compare

    med.:
    133.4 fps Compare

    high:
    100 fps Compare

    ultra:
    34.1 36 ~ 35 fps Compare

They don't even list the resolution tested. It was probably 1024x768.

Well dx11 IS working but isn't doing much graphics candy just offering more efficiency I believe. High Res is ONLY enabled with Ultra. So you really are just playing the same game with minor DX11 implementations I believe. 40 seems about right as CF 6970s I have get around 50-70. But they rarely drop below 50 in the most intense scenes. If you aren't at those scenes and drop to the 20's...I would think something may be wrong. Can you run a 3dmark vantage or 3dmark 11 and report the results?

cuz from what I understand, the 580M is actually a much better card than the 6990 in Crysis 2 specifically.

couldnt one disable the tessalation engine via catalyst on these ati-cards?

i guess by doing so, even with ultra-settings in crysis 2, one get more fps (since with nvidia, you cant disable tessalation).

Well if you want to disable tessellation leave everything to ultra, in advanced, choose Object Detail as Extreme then you'll be set :)

40 fps is really good with DX 11.

First of all, the details from which notebookcheck does their testing can be found just by floating the mouse arrow over the detail level the game was run on. High is only 1366X768. You can easily get 100fps with that card.

I also don't think, as was pointed out earlier, that the high rez texture pack and DX11 were tested with those settings.

Anyhow, the GTX580m is about 10% faster than the GTX 460 desktop card. It's more or less between the 460 and 560 desktops. If you look at geforce.com for the optimal settings for these cards at 1920X1080, they all get around 35 fps average for a mix of ultra and high settings at 1920 X1080

Are we seriously using Notebookcheck as a valid point of reference? Unless they are using the exact same hardware configuration as you are, Notebookcheck is a shot in the dark at best.
