    hi all,

Just a quick one really. I was expecting much better FPS with my new R4 with 7970m.

I have turned off the integrated graphics and restarted. I have confirmed this using the display adapters within device manager. Intel 4000 is definitely not running.

I am averaging around 30FPS in skyrim on ultra settings. I am averaging about 22 on Alan Wake with everything on ultra.

According to NBC I should be getting much more:
    AMD Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    Alan Wake should be 45fps.
    Skyrim should be 56fps.

I have tried this overclocked and not overclocked. When overclocked I opted for 950mhz on core clock and 1450mhz on memory clock.

My 3d mark 11 score as stock was 5649 and overclocked was 6435.

Any ideas on why the games are running such slow fps?

In the mean time I am going to uninstall the current driver (8.970.0.0) with the beta 12.7 driver and the latest CAP.

    Matt

Yep should definitely be higher. It sounds like your card is throttling. Check out your advanced power settings (high performance) and make sure you're set to maximize performance on the video card.

You'll probably notice a boost from the 12.7 betas over the stock Dell drivers as well. Haven't tried the stock drivers on the 7970m myself, but I've read they don't perform as well.

Normally how should drivers be updated on M17X R4 with 7970m? Via the official AMD site or via Dell's?

OK new driver installed. Overclocked I am now getting on average 53 in Alan Wake and 55 in Skyrim. I also forgot to mention that I have LOTS of visual enhancements on Skyrim too.

So I suppose that sorts it! 12.7 FTW!

    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/AMD_Catalyst_12.11_Beta8.exe

Get them from AMD, that's the link to the latest.

I'd disable the integrated as well, I don't use my machine on battery often, but I haven't really noticed a difference.
