I have the new M17 (R5) and my sound is silly loud. Out of 100, I cant listen to it on more than 10 and I usually have it set to about 5 on the windows slider. I cant really use the Fn keys to control sound because it goes from too loud, to off. Anyone else have this issue and a solution?
    Thanks
Device manager has a few sound drivers:

Realtek High definition audio ver 6.0.1.6876
Nvidia High Definition audio ver 1.3.30.1
Nvidia Virtual Audio Device Wave Extensible WDM ver 1.2.19.0
There is also a Bluetooth sound driver but im sure that's not relevant

Hi Steve, some more information would help. You did not mention what you're using: Laptop speakers, headset, external speakers, or does this happen with all of them?

Also, have you tried a system restore using AlienRespawn? This will set the entire system back to that "out of box" state.

It is using the built in speakers...this was a clean reinstall of windows 7 using latest drivers on resource disk and web site

Hi Steve. I have an M17 and I must say the volume level that is available is unusually high for a laptop. If I am using my M17 in the office I usually have the volume slider around 5% or less and when I am home and using external speakers I still only have the slider level at around 35%. I don't like using the Fn keys to adjust the volume either for the same reason you quoted.

I don't see this as a major problem though just something that is peculiar to the M17. The volume is there if you really want it or need it. I think if I ever used full volume on the internal speakers I would be in danger of damaging either the speakers or my ears. :)

This is normal, it's just the way the volume was set. Don't push it to hard so you don't damage the speakers ;)
