Need a new battery. Where would you get one from these days? Any good aftermarket brands or stick to orginal? Has anyone opened one of these up and changed just the cells?

Do you mean the M17x R3?
If so, the R3 and R4 batteries are starting to get hard to find but not quite as hard as the R1 and R2. Aftermarket ones are probably going to be your best best.
I do have a spare R3/R4 battery but it's at 42% health. I have one at 91% but I think I'll keep that one. Being in Australia makes shipping more difficult as well.Last edited: Aug 26, 2021 -
Yes, M17xR3. Found an Original Genuine new but it was made in 2018. New but 3 years old. Probably, has some good wear/loss already. Anyone have a good aftermarket brand? Maybe opening the pack and changing the cells is the way to go?

I don't know how it could be genuine if it was made in 2018. That would have been well past Alienware's End of Life for that model and they love throwing old machines to the curb once they reach a certain age. I could be wrong but I'd be very surprised. If it is genuine and from 2018 then that's the best you could hope for. If it was never used then it should have decent health still.
I don't have any experience with swapping cells but I know some people have tried it in the extremely rare M17x R1/R2 battery.
