I just got mine and I powered it on and I see a lot of dead pixels or half dead ones. Anyway, flickering dots and such. Also for a split second, there's a white rectangle on the bottom screen. Since this will be given to my friend, I was worried, didn't want to give him a busted laptop. I didn't go through the windows setup and stuff.

ProjectOblivion, if you're indeed seeing large numbers of dead pixels out-of-the-box, I would return the machine for a refund. The alternative is to have the display replaced but, if you follow this forum, you'll see users who experience repair after repair before achieving a properly-working laptop.

Plus each time a repair is performed, something else might become damaged, the machine might acquire minor cosmetic damage, small retaining tabs that hold the housing firmly in place might snap off, etc. I once had Dell replace a display, for example, and the technician accidentally crimped the keyboard cable, soon causing the keyboard to fail, requiring another repair for that. You paid for a machine that's supposed to work out-of-the-box, and that's what you should receive. The flaw you describe should have been caught and corrected at the factory before shipping.

And your friend is very fortunate!

    Good luck!

So, I should call Dell and get a tech over to fix it?

You can use this small app to check for dead or stuck pixels: Dead Pixel Tester 3.00 Download - TechSpot - if it's gone, chances are it might just be down to the newness of the panel itself. Keep an eye on it though.

That's a great app, about the LCD issue if it comes back you may want to check the LCD cable. If it persists just send me a Private MEssage and I'll help you out.
