Any owners of the 3D package for the M17X? Have you tried 3D games? movies? How does it perform? Do you feel it was worth the extra cash?

Also, in general, they say the R3 M17X is lighter by a couple lbs, I'm looking at 1 Hard drive, and 1 gfx card obviously....

Any input would be great. Thanks.

Its about the same as the r3 with 6970 pricewise. You get the better screen, but you loose the gpu power of the 6970. If you want to at least test out 3d, then I would go to bestbuy and test out 3d. If you like it, then consider the 3d.

The m17x r3 is a lot lighter, it is about 9.5lbs instead of 11ish in the r2

I looked at 3D for the first time in a store 2 days ago, it is simply goobsmacking, I have been doing a lot of reading and 3D quality doesn't degrade like 2D does with resolution and settings - don't know why this is but it talks about this in the Nvidia stereoscopic guide, they recommend 720p and medium settings for best effect, you can download the guide from nvidia website

the sample movie I watched was avatar and it was stunning, there is a 3D thread here if you go through a couple of pages

I'm debating going with the R3...the 3D makes it different, I'm gonna be selling my Macbook AIR which I never really ended up using. Hopefully I can get a good chunk since its fairly new and put it towards the M17x

Not with the highest setting. I think you be fine with high in DX9 and 3d turn off.

I have a question about viewing 3D blurays on the m17. When viewing, is it more akin to viewing a landscape behind the screen, or are certain objects capable of coming "out" of the screen? Or, is it a mixture of both? Thanks!

I received my M17x 3D laptop yesterday and its fantastic. The only 3D software I've tried so far is Just Cause 2 which looks pretty sweet. I'll have to give it a longer run later today.

Except DX 9 has ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE OF WORKING in battlefield 3 because it's required to be DX 10+. Just read the articles/threads about Windows XP having no chance of running Battlefield 3. That should explain everything to you about DX 9 clearly not working on BAttlefield 3....

The 1.5 GB Geforce card isn't strong enough for DX 11 BF3? That sounds kinda crazy...I want the 3D and the 120hz screen or its not worth it..

Does that mean my 2GB dual GPU card in the AW desktop isn't gonna run BF3 correcrtly either?

Playing in 3d is supposed to have a relatively big hit on your frame rate, but I'm sure you could play BF3 fine, the question is on what settings.

yes, your framerates suffer, i have to kick the resolution down to 720p when using 3d, and sometimes dial back shadows or other options to get a 30+fps. 3dmark 06 gets me 14300 or so with 3d off but only around 8000 with it enabled to give you an idea of the performance hit. Another reason why some of us are trying to get the 3d to play nice with the 485m card.

You should ALWAYS try 3D before purchasing it.

I had never tried 3D before and purchased an Asus G73JW-3DE.

After using it for several weeks, I felt like vomiting after 15 minutes of usage. I became dizzy and had minor heat-flashes.

    IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE!

Don't make the same mistake as I did. Try before you buy (using a 3D store display TV).

Sadly, I'll never be able to enjoy 3D until it's tweaked so that glasses aren't required and a wider audience that couldn't use it before now can...

I guess I can go with the upgraded 1080 LCD 60hz with the ATI 2GB card...is that card strong? Can anyone also compare the LED 1080 screen to an ultrasharp in terms of color, brightness, clarity?

Drop down the 3D effect. Non-glasses 3D WILL make you vomit, the 3DS has been proof of that.

Just drop your 3D effect setting to 50% and you will be fine, give you brain time to adjust and take frequent breaks.

first of all, as recommended by nvidia -3D works best at 720p and lower detail settings, according to them detail is not effected the same way as in 2D

Will BF3 work in 3D on the R3 with 460m ? well I don't know because I've never tried it and anyone telling you on this thread that it won't doesn't know either BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER TRIED IT

there are reports here on this forum about game performance in 3D and so far they have been fine

I did and was goooobsmacked, it is simply fantastic, most top games released in the past year or so are in 3D "but you need a 3D machine to appriciate them"
