No idea. Dell Outlet only states that it is refurbished. From thier site...

    May have obserable cosmetic defects.

No picture, no other description. Using a new quote I found this unit with a i7-940 would be around $4K. The price makes it very hard to let go of it. Is Crossfire dual?

Yes. It has all the right ingredients: dual 5870s, RGB LED screen.

They have refurbs sorted in 3 categories:

so its one of these. :) If you click on the blue question mark, this window pops out so it explains the condition. Unless it's Scratch and dent, it should look good. Depending exactly how minor blemishes (imperfections) are. :)

The item said it was Certified Refurbished. So it looks to me like a good deal. Still has the 1 year warranty. I think I am going to do it before I lose it. Also get %2 off using Dell Account. Total to door with tax: $2,276.22

Just wanted to thank you for the feedback and report that the laptop came in yesterday and is in perfect condition. I love this thing! I was kind of worried about buying this through the outlet but not anymore. Thanks again.

Congrats looks like an awesome set up! You're lucky it's on great condition, enjoy your new machine :D maybe think about an SSD boot drive for windows and important things/most used, and your 500GB as the secondary storage. You saved a bomb of money with that set up! Good luck and enjoy!

Nice deal! Get the warrant, if you ever have issues it will be replaced, probably with a new one! But awesome deal man, and welcome to the forum, hope you stick around. There is a wealth of knowledge here.

Sounds like a good deal to me - one can always opt in to the warranty any time after they've purchased as long as they're still within the initial warranty, right?

Yes, but it's always best to purchase the warranty upfront because later will cost you big $$$.

I highly recommend the warranty. Just like all companies it a bit of a pain to use it but in the end it is absolutely worth it. In fact, due to how well my replacemed R1 turned out I went out and bought my wife a m17xR2 as well - with three years warranty of course!

Thanks for all the comments. I triple checked everything and not a siggle scratch. The best theory I have is that whoever bought di not have the cash to pay for it or did not like the CrossfireX. In any case I am reviewing all the posts for tips and tricks and hope to submit my own experiences. I tried to order this unit new, had to use the 940 chip and it came out to roughly $4100. This is my first 17x and should provide a great base station for my 11x.

As suggested I am looking at an Intel X25 SSD for both the 11 and the 17. The 17 should have 2 bays so I am assuming I can do both SSD and HDD at the same time.

The warranty sounds good. I know that after the purchase of my 11 Dell called 2 months after asking to extend the warranty. When they told me the price which was close to $900 for three years I told them I could buy a new one for that price. They could not ignore the fact that this was true. Soooooo...I haggled the 3 year down to $375. I will try to do the same with the 17.

Thanks again for the warm welcome...
