I have recently experienced the battery not charging indication on my M17X R2. I carried out the power button drain procedure and all is now well. Having owned a number of laptops I have never had to do this with other machines. What is it about Alienware laptops which need to have to carry out this procedure?

If you want a high end machine there are bound to be a few quirks that pop up.
