I have a few issues and questions that I thought ya'll could help me with.

    - Sometimes when I pull the notebook out of sleep mode, my internet browsers won't allow me to type anything into the address bar. I can click hyperlinks on the home page so I know the connection is fine, but if I try to type anything in the bar, it becomes unresponsive until I restart the system.

    - Just today the notebook has started going into sleep mode while I'm on it. This has happened twice in the last hour. I'll just be typing away and it just goes to bed. Everything comes back up just fine, but it's odd and frustrating.

I'm scared to do a fresh install of Windows 7 because I'm at Clemson University and they made me do a ton of stuff program wise to set it up, and I don't want to do all of that again (I don't really remember how)...but I can figure it out if need be.

    System Specs:

    6 GB DDR3
    1 TB RAID-0
    i7 820QM
    Dual 5870s
    Ultimate 6300 Wireless
    Blu-Ray Reader
    Windows Home Premium

Do I need any BIOS updates or driver updates?

Also, what should I do system restore wise? I could never figure out the little Alienware Restore interface, because it seems all it wants me to do is buy their better version rather than actually doing any good. Because of this, I haven't touched it, so do I need to do anything for this?

Oh yeah, one more thing. Sometimes when I pull it out of sleep, the log-in interface doesn't come up. It remains a black screen with a mouse that I can move around. I have to press the power button, and then right as it goes back to sleep, the interface flashes up. Then, when I press the power button again, it comes up fine like it has been in sleep mode once again.

    Thanks in advance,

    HT

some of these are common issues that can be answered by using the search function. as for the sleep while your away issue its likely beacuse you haven't adjusted the power settings in the control panel. or you have a corrupted install of the command center. i would recommend a fresh install of windows, it shouldn't be that hard to re-configure Clemson's network after you got it up and running. the browser issue is weird that's the first ive heard of that imo.

last but not least save your self the headache down the road and take your Hdds out of Raid, you will thank me later.

Okay. How do I do that. And I'm sorry about the search function, I'm just frustrated with this right now.

And it's not sleeping while I'm away, it's while I'm actively using it...

dont take my comment as a slight, i was just pointing it out. the best answer at this point is a re-install.

Okay. I tried the search, but I had a hard time. I don't have the Windows disc, so I'll have to get it sent from home to do the reinstall.

Do I need to do anything system restore wise?

    Thanks for the help clever.

make sure you download the Drivers from the m17x-r2 owners lounge, dont use the Disc that came with your machine(for drivers), make sure you install the chipset driver first, then the Video card driver, then the network card then the sound, then everything else after that. if your going to update the bios do it before you do the fresh install. make sure you format the drive while installing windows as well. other than that its pretty easy

Install drivers before or after the Windows reinstall?

after the install, but if you are going to update the BIOS do it before you re-install windows
