M17Xr1. This is second time replacing the MB from broken USB's. This time, I also replaced the Daughter Board for more worn USB ports. I took the time to search for a QX9300 to upgrade from the 9000...

Got everything installed, started it up, got to the log in screen, signed in, windows opened and started. So far so good. All of a sudden, the PC goes black, no power at all. I try again, this time it tells me "Windows didn't shutdown right...etc..." Then before I can take an action, it goes black again. No power.

I opened it back up, checked connections, restarted, and this time, I opened up windows...even got to the internet for about 30 seconds...then boom...out again. No power.

It's got to be something simple that I don't have experience with or something I overlooked. Any ideas guys? I really need some direction.

One thing to add...when it originally booted up, it certainly recognized the new CPU at 2.53MHz and didn't give ANY errors. When the windows screen came up, it was smooth and crisp as I would expect. This happened with the onboard graphics card as well as the twins, so I'm not thinking it's the video cards.

    Thanks.

Only thing I can think of is a short on the board somewhere or CPU acting up. I would plug in the Q9000 and see if the symptoms persist.

I pulled it all apart, out the 9000 back on, and all worked fine...

I then took it all apart again and installed the 9300, and wouldn't you know it, it all worked perfectly. Must have been a cable of something not seated or something. That 9300 is a world of difference over that 9000 too. Should've done that swap a long time ago!

Glad you got it working. I'm interested to know how this 2009 computer is holding up today!
