In the bios there is an option to increase the voltage to the memory from 1.5v to 1.7 volts and to up the processor voltage by 75mw or 150mw .
Is it worth playing around with these and would it do anything .
    I just have the standard stock stuff i5 540 and 4gb ddr3

Cpu overclocking is grayed out ?

    Thanks

    Hi Proz,

This may be of interest to you:

Upping Vcore, CPU Overvolting Explained - Introduction

In my experience, prior to upgrading to the 940XM I found over-volting the CPU to 75mv and the DDR3 Samsung to 1.5v or 1.6v to be stable.

Over-volting to 150mv and 1.7v had some undesirable effects in my case (E.g.: System would not wake from sleep).

The CPU Overclocking functions in the BIOS are only available to the 'XM' series processors (Core i7-920XM or Core i7-940XM).

I'm not sure if you are able to OC the Core-i5 using FSB or Throttlestop. Perhaps the more experienced Over Clockers amongst us, can provide you with further information.

    Good Luck!

the voltage itself does not overclock CPU or ram but it's needed for some overclocking setups

Eg. in my case if i want to overclock my system by 5% i have to use 1.6V for ram to have a stable setup, if i leave it 1.5V I get plenty of errors if I use memtest86
