I wanted to know if I use tweakforce drivers xtreme-g 10.10m for my mobility 5870x2 do I still have to install the vbios 13B96101.104, A01 from dell website for this driver? Or is this vbios only for dell drivers only?

If you want to check which VBIOS you are using, get the free CPU-Z. The VBIOS is already in your graphics card (like how the BIOS already has its firmware), the link to the VBIOS is here anyway. The Xtreme-G 10.10m are simply drivers that tell Windows OS how to use your graphics card (completely unrelated), download site is here anyway.

So I can use the xtreme-g 10.10m without installing 13B96101.104, A01? I don't have to worry about blue screen of death, windows freezing and powermanagement issues?

AFAIK about installing drivers, run the installation as adminstrator (so you have a less chance of getting the BSOD). Read the feedback of the drivers here.

Why dont you just update the Vbios and use official AMD drivers instead....that way no BSOD's.....

Why dont you want to install the latest vbios - it means you can use reference amd drivers and not mess about with the likes of the ones you are looking at using......if they are based on AMD 10.10 they are old drivers anyway......

    Hi there Spacelordz,

Unfortunately the modded xtreme-g 10.10m drivers are just highly tweaked AMD reference drivers. They are still based off the standard AMD released driver base. Therefore you will most likely still be facing the issues that you describe above.

It would be highly recommended that you update the vbios and install the latest AMD reference GPU drivers. AMD 11.3 or 11.4 are good drivers to give a go. As steviejones133 already recommended above.

    Cheers. :)

So just making sure, if you install Catalyst, would you still need to install the Dell display drivers on their support download page?

Basically, wether you get drivers from AMD or Dell, they are "packaged" with Catalyst....which ever one you opt for, it will be a complete deal with drivers and catalyst control centre...no additional installing (apart from CAP profiles if you choose AMD drivers over Dell.

Vbios should be updated whilst you have Dell Drivers 8.763 installed...this is first and foremost. Then install uninstall Dell and install AMD...then install CAP profiles. The correct order would be:

    i) Make sure your are running Dell 8.763 Video Drivers
ii) Perform the official Vbios update
iii) Uninstall Dell 8.763 Video Drivers (if you wish to use AMD instead)
    iv) Install latest AMD drivers
    v) Install latest CAP profiles from AMD

    Thats it basically.

Have a read of this thread for more info as its pretty much a step by step guide to update your vbios. The first post by Batboy has all the info needed and at the bottom there is another link to flashing the vbios itself.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...5870-gpus-5870-vbios-discussion-non-beta.html

Once you have updated the vbios, you are free to uninstall the Dell drivers if you desire and use AMD drivers....same thing goes here, just uninstall the Dell 8.763 drivers you had installed at tim eof vbios flashing and then install the AMD reference drivers followed by latest CAP profiles.

I would also recommend using driver sweeper (to clean ati display) and ccleaner (for registry entries) to clear out any "leftovers" of the old driver to ensure a squeaky clean install of the AMD set. This process would fall between stages iii and iv. You would driver sweep and Cclean AFTER stage iii and then progress to step iv.

Hope this helps you out....post back if you need help.
