Hey I have a M17x R2 laptop which I spilled coke on :( I need to get a replacement part. The keyboard is a model part: nsk-d8c0u
It is the UK version but I wonder if I can replace with say a US keyboard?
Would that work even though the model part number is different or would it just not work at all?

Hi, I'm sure it will work OK, you'll just need to set it in windows :)

Well they would, they are different ;), as long as it states R2 you should be fine. Post a link to what you have found.

As you say going by the part number you have it is the one, but not saying a model of M17x does make me think twice. It's all about the physical fit, electronically any will work.

If that is the part number you know is on your machine then I'd go for it - and get a cheap wireless keyboard ASAP :D

    Good luck.

You're very welcome n cool it got sent so quickly. I recommend you search out some teardown videos to prep on what is involved in replacing. I've only watched it being done and it seemed to me it was all about sequence and finding all the screws, nothing too hard ;).

I am interested in hearing how it goes :)

I was lucky in a way that I had a graphics cards replaced by dell before the warranty went, plus at another point I had the screen removed (this was after I found out about the my consumer rights and how they add an extra 2 years warranty on any part they replace). I watched him take it all apart plus because he did it twice it was much easier to remove the panels. To get to the keyboard is sooo easy, 2 screws for the mesh panal on the back. Then two screws near the back by the fan and that allows you to turn the laptop over and remove that section which has the alienware logo you press to turn it on. It was a lil tough to get off the first time he did it but so long as you make sure the screen is pushed well back you can take it off no bother. Once that is off it is only 5 tiny screws that hold the keyboard in place :) it is soo easy to take apart thankfully. Even a noob like me can do it hehe
All of this makes me want to learn more about how the hardware connects to a motherboard and what will work on it, plus why some things wont work etc

Btw most handy thing to have is the android app Unified remote, I got it as recommended by a friend as you can connect your android device to your computer using wifi. Then you can use your phone as a mouse! plus a keyboard ;) that's how I am typing everything lol!

It'll work fine, no need to worry about the part number.

That's cool that you've seen it and already done it, one less thing to stress about ;). Sounds like you have better consumer protection in Eire than in a lot of places :p.

Ask away if there is anything you are interested in, usually someone here that has good information :D
