Hi, just wanted to check with you guys first but I think my motherboard is fried. Got home last night, plugged in power and pressed power button on my m17. No lights, but thought I heard a small pop as the power button was pressed.

Noticed the blue ring on the end of the lead of power supply was off checked power was ok, it was ,so switched off and back on blue light came back on but as soon as you plug it into the M17 it goes off......

Battery is good, but still no signs of life......also did a remove battery press power button reset to no avail.....don't fancy tearing down the Lappie until new parts arrive. BTW, it's well out of warranty.

    Don't think I missed anything .

    Regards

    Dave.

Sounds like the power supply is shutting off due to a short.

Yeah sounds like a short in the system. Check the power ports to see if there's a foreign object in there or even dust. Try a different outlet as well. Does the system run on battery? If not, then I suspect mobo damage from the short.

You can find your Service Tag in the BIOS.

Dacco, how's everything on your new GTX 670MX? Any issues? Do you have a thread here on the upgrade that you did? Am seriously considering this card as an upgrade and am looking forward to your implementing your CrossFireX set-up.

I believe NDC is authorized by Dell. They're warranty is an RTB one if I'm not mistaken. Their prices aren't bad when it comes to higher configuration models. ;)

It works well, reason I went with it was the 75w TDP( for SLI and same power brick) and the fact that everybody seemed to be over looking it(nothing like a challenge)........runs very cool maxing out at 62-65 when gaming/benching, nVidia 340.70 drivers(I think) sorted out the problem with the F-key brightness control not working. Will probably not be going to do the SLi option as just bought a M18xR2 with 7970M in CF at a good price :D........Oh BTW fans are still controlled via HWINFO as I'm using a 920XM.

Agreed, never had any problem with NDC and didn't mean to imply anything underhanded by the post. Sorry to NDC if it came across that way :)

I completely understood what you meant about NDC. Just wanted to clarify to some folks here that they're a reputable seller of Dell products and not a shady one at all. :)

By the way, we're on the same boat as I too was able to get an M18xR2 CrossFireX at a good price. I'm also looking at the GTX 670MX for my M17xR2 as it is, as you said a 75watt TDP card. I just hope someone comes up with a solution or workaround for automatic fan control with the XM procies. This would make the GTX 670MX SLI a very nice upgrade for the M17xR2. Thanks for the info. ;)
