Got a couple of questions about the 675M, been offered one at an unmissable price it's the 4gig one. My laptop is awaiting a new motherboard and was thinking while replacing the M/B I could slot one of these in. The questions are:-
1/ Could I use the X-plate spreader and h/sink from the 4870 installed at the moment.
2/ Is it a simple plug and play, know about the modded inf. file had nvidia cards in all lappies prior to this.
3/ what sort of performance boost could I be looking at, given that I have 4870CF at the moment.
Sort of looking forward to going back to nvidia if that makes sense.....

how heavy is the m17x

Hi nev, little bit off topic but I have the R2(not in production anymore) and its very well built which makes it quite heavy...personally i like it as bought as a desktop replacement. If that is a problem have a look at the R4 believe they're a bit lighter or even a m14.

Well the 675M is the 580M, so maybe your search can start there. Good luck!

I don't think it's the same heatsink, you can give that one a try and if you get high temps then switch for an nVidia one.
It's simply plug and play as far as I'm concerned. If a modded vBios or BIOS is needed maybe an actual 675m user in this lappy can chime in and let us know.
It's gonna be the best experience that you've had haha. You'll simply love it. Here is a comparison table of video cards, you'll see both listed there... The % difference is almost 70% according to this benchmark. Since you have xFire it might be a little less but you'll still notice a big difference. -

There's only one type of pair of heatsinks for the M17x R2. It's the thermal pads arrangement that makes the difference.
Since the 675M is basically the 580M it will work but i pretty much doubt you'll get SLi to enable without some patching and probably no auto-fan control meaning that you're fans will be @ 100% all the time and you'll have to use a third party tool (such as HwInfo) to control them.
Let's continue here, since it has been confirmed by reborn2003:
