My M17X-R3 shipped with the 240W adapter from Dell. I was looking at picking up a second one to avoid having to crawl behind my desk and unhook the original every time I travel. Upon searching on Dell's website I noticed that dell also offers a 150W adapter for the R3 as well. Since the second adapter would be used purely for travel this might be a better option as it is slightly smaller. Does anyone have any experience with this adapter? Any downsides to using it over the 240W? I wont be doing much gaming on it but would like the option to if I wanted. Will it be enough to power the configuration below?

if it makes you feel better, my Asus G73 with Core i7 2630qm and GTX 460m overclocked to 800/1600/1480 (everyday) came from the factory with a 150w adapter...so your computer should run just fine on that.

What is Dell charging for the 150w? I bet if you bought aftermarket, for the same price or less, you could get the 240w

    I appreciate the response.

Oddly enough they are the same price. I thought the 150W might be a better choice as this power supply would be used purely for travel and therefore would be a bit lighter and more compact. After reading a few reviews it looks like there are some compatibility issues with it and the R3 as well as some instances of the plug being loose and falling out. Guess I will just order another 240W as mine has been flawless so far and it is the same money.

The 240w would be better either way. If you felt like some gaming while traveling you have a power full enough psu or if your original fails you have a proper backup.

Is the weaker one actually smaller? If it isn't I would just get the regular one.

Alot of Dell's will complain about lower wattage PSUs plugged in, even though they are enough. Dell has always been picky about chargers. Even the most basic discreet GPU for normal notebooks, and they will ship you a 90 watt or higher.
