will the gpu r9 290m work in my r3 model as I cant seem to get anyone to sell 780m, so I'll just go with radeon. And do I need a new x-bracket and heatsink?

    Thank you!

Hi, I was considering the same upgrade, did it work out for you, is it compatible with windows 10 and crimson.

    Thanks in advance!

I didnt buy r9 then, rather wait for 780m. And I broke my x bracket so Im wondering which one do I need to fit both radeon and nvidia (until i manage to buy 780m)? Thank you

I know this is an old topic, however I can not get the r9 m290x to work in my m17x r3. I install it and get 8 beeps. Reinstalled original card and it works fine. Card is from an Alienware. Any help would be appreciated. Am running A12 Bios. It is not unlocked and I do have PEG enabled. Thanks

Thank you. I was actually thinking this was plug and play from what I had read. Is it very difficult to flash the card?

Not hard, just set video mode to SG, plug in card, make DOS bootable USB, boot into it with F12 menu, run ATIflash to flash the rom to the GPU. very easy.
