7970 has a higher clock rate while the 770 has 1GB more ram (3gb vs 2gb). I would assume you could OC the 770 to be on-par with the 7970 clocks. I've seen some impressive clock numbers for the 770, just looking around online.

7970M will beat the 770M.. I doubt OCing the 770 will alow it to reach 7970M levels..

The 7970M is on par with the 680M both of which beat the 770M quite a bit.

This is very true. The 680m and the 7970m were head to head in the GPU wars. Of course you know which one I prefer but the fact remains that both are good gaming GPU's and one will outperform the other depending on circumstances.

At stock in a non enduro system I would have taken the 7970M but there is no denying the tweaking potential of the 680M, 40-50% can be had out of it which is crazy.

Yup, on the latest driver published today I can maintain a 1006mhz clock on all my games :D Running at +243mhz over a 720mhz base clock.

Well, everyone else beat me to it. But between those two, hands down the 7970M will have a much better performance on the M17X R3
If you do have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask away.
