    Hey guys

    So I am having dramas with a M17X R3. i7-2760QM with a GTX 460M, normal 60hz LCD. It keeps giving 8 beeps.

When I first got it, it worked, but screen had one dead pixel and the GTX 460M would not install, but would show in the device manager as (device cannot start).

So I flashed the bios from A10 stock to A08 unlocked and changed the setting from SG to PGE in BIOS (to try force booting the 460M). It gave me the 8 beeps after that.

So I blind flashed with a few different stock and unlocked bioses but no luck. Removed the CMOS battery and still no luck. Even bought another 460M from eBay and replaced it, but 8 beeps still!!!

With the 460M in there i get black screen and 8 beeps. With 460M out I get the same. If i plug VGA monitor, the monitor shows the RAID screen and then a black screen with an underscore frozen and it starts beeping 8 beeps.

If I unplug the M17X LCD, the screen does not come on and I still get 8 beeps. If I hook up VGA monitor while LCD is disconnected, same thing, RAID screen on VGA monitor and then frozen black screen and 8 beeps.

    Any suggestions guys?

    Thanks in advance.

did a little google for you and 8 beeps could mean anything from GPU to LCD failure, best bet is sent it in.

8 beeps, huh. That means LCD failure, or rather the system believes the LCD has failed. Give me a minute to look some stuff up...

EDIT: OK, had to finish reading your OP. Have you tried removing the 460m, and setting the BIOS to FORCE the iGPU only? If the Nvidia card is in, and it has an issue with the PCIe controller that the card is linked to, forcing the system to boot using only the iGPU could bypass whatever the problem is. If is still doesn't work after that, your motherboard might be dead or dying. Either that, or there's something go weird with your LCD.

One other way to trouble shoot is to check the scroll/cap/num lock leds. If they are flashing or lit up, that will also indicate an error. Here is the page that details those error codes: Alienware

It seems like a mobo failure. If you are not able to get it to work with the iGPU only then you may need a replacement and you can get it by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. We'll be happy to help.
