    Just a quickie.

I don't have my laptop in front of me right now but is it possible to plug my PC into the M17X R3's HDMI input port and use the laptop as a display for the PC?

Just to add the laptop is using the nVidia 580 GTX with the non-3D display and my PC is using a nVidia 780 GTX.

The answer to the question is yes it does work. Although the image quality/colour seems a little washed out but that could be because its an laptop panel and not a proper monitor.
