Im having some issues connecting my PS3 to my M17x. I have a newer slim PS3 with an HDMI V1.3 cable. Both work fine on my flat screen. But when I plug it into the laptop I can see the PS3 screen for a split second and then it goes to black. I've tried 2 different PS3's with 2 different cables and even used my HD-DVR and all have the same issue. I can hear the audio from my HD-DVR but image still goes blank after a second.
I called dell tech support and he did the alien contact thing and all that he could tell me is the laptops fine its my other equipment that's the problem. Other wise I would have a fee based tech support cause the laptops not at fault. He even told me to go out and buy a DVI cable and 2 HDMI adapters and try that. Like I have extra money for that after buying this laptop.
Anyone with the same issues or have any ideas on a fix? Thanks

Are your hdmi cables silver or gold plated?

-
Just tried another HDMI cable that was 1.3c with gold ends and still same symptoms. Im going to give tech support another call later today. Sometimes you just get the wrong person, or someone who really just doesn't give a $#!t.

I posted about this a week or two ago. If you're using driver 285.xx it will do that issue. The highest driver you can use right now to keep hdmi input functional is 280.26 I believe.
-
-
I have 285.xx drivers and mine works about 1/3 of the time if I boot up my xbox and plug it in before turning on my laptop. It's kind of annoying, but maybe that will help.
-
Yeah, the same thing happened to me when I downloaded the 285.62 driver. I had to revert back because I need that feature available.
-
I tried uninstalling the current driver and installing the old one but the older driver installer says it can't locate hardware. Then when I restart windows it automatically installs 285.62. What am I doing wrong?
-
I don't know. When I had to revert to the older driver, I just system restored it. I'm pretty sure somebody else can help you though.
-
Make sure you do the proper way of removing drivers and use driver sweeper in safe mode to clear out loose files. I installed 280.26 without the need of modded inf drivers.
-
I tried the driver sweeper like it said but still wouldn't install 280.26. So I just system restored since I only had the laptop for a month, not much was on there. After that I tried to install the 280.26 again but still no go. But the HDMI input works fine now. Guess I just won't update the driver for awhile.
I also sent an email to Nvidia and this is what they said:

So I guess if we all make a stink about it they might do something about it. So send them a bug report with your issues and maybe we can get this taken care of eventually. -
Too bad hdmi in is a super niche thing since not too many people talk about it.

That was one of the main selling points on this computer. Earlier this year I was stuck on board an aircraft carrier for 2 weeks with a laptop and ps3, and the laptop didn't have hdmi input and only had multiplayer games on it. It sucked....
