I had a problem with my webcam cutting in and out. That wouldn't have been so bad, because I rarely use it, but the device manager was going crazy and kept popping up with errors. So, I had Alienware come fix it. In the process the WiFi quit working. No connections show. The OSD shows the WiFi goes on & off. The hardware shows up fine with no errors in device mgr. Intel software shows the hardware switch is off. They've now replaced the LCD assemblies twice and the WiFi card once. Now they are saying the problem is with software. I booted a copy of Ubuntu Linux and it too says the hardware switch is off. Anyone have any ideas?

OK, so after having two techs couldn't figure this out, I'm sending it in to them to fix it. this will be the second time I've sent this computer in for service in less than a year. I'm really disappointed.

Unfortunately I think that two times in a year is pretty common amongst us Alienware owners :(

Have you tried pressing the WLAN button at the top right hand corner of the palmrest? AFAIK the Alienware laptops do not have a physical switch for the WLAN, just a touch button to disable/enable on the fly.

If Linux doesn't see it then it is a bad WLAN card (not drivers/software).
