Hey all, I have read the main thread before posting but need clarification on the M17X R3.

Does it come with an SSD caddy or not? You see I already have 2 C300 SSD's in my PC that I ideally want to use. Also is it possible to convert the optical bay into an SSD caddy or normal HDD caddy?

Slightly out of topic but with the colour schemes I see in many reviews I don't see white which is the colour I <3 is it possible to do this within the command center?

    Thanks

It's supposed to come with a caddy and a special connector to make it fit.
I ordered a refurbished one so I only got the caddy, but I guess the previous owner took the connector for himself (and a few screws on the backside).

If SSD caddy is same as HDD caddy, then yes. Cuz both of the R3s I received have the default hdd inside a caddy, and in the middle of the lappy there's another empty one that you can insert a HDD into.

Oh there is an extra hdd bay in the M17X R3? I didn't know this because I was thinking about ordering the M18X R3 if I couldn't convert the optical bay. I guess I will have to ring DELL before I order to make sure.

Yeah that is what I'm wondering if the caddys are only for standard HDD's and not SSD's as they are smaller and would need some sort of conversion.

Standard SSDs are the same size as standard Harddrives for laptops ..

    So everything fits the same..

They do make some smaller SSDs like 1.8inch vs the standard laptop drive which is 2.5inches but those are pretty rare in comparison and your C300s should be 2.5s so you will be fine if you use it and it will just bolt right in.

    Awesome, thanks for the clarification.

Just need an update on the colour scheme options now then I'm ready to do some haggling!

If you don't mind, can you follow up with how much you were able to get off?
