Hi all,
I wonder where should i file a complain regarding to my M17X R3?
Its only 2 months old and not been dropped or abused..
It recently developed a funny patch of white color on the bottom left corner of the screen with a dead dot in the middle. Sometimes the machine will produce a black and white line across the whole screen, about 1pixle thick.. More over, the alienfx will only lights up the 1st left section of the keyboard, unless you open up the alienfx editor and then its lights up fully..(on a few occassions, its works just like normal).
Behonest spending all these money for a laptop what i was hoping is sort of hassle free and reliability (machine has not been modified nor overclocked)...quite dissapointed tho..
Does anyone here had the same or similar problem before and managed to resolving it? or can anyone point me to the right direction , as i tried emailing them at technical support but due to their website, it just wouldnt happen..
many many thanks

Dude emailing gets you nowhere. Call, complain, get it replaced, win.

never hassle free from electronics. i keep this in mind since i ever took CS as a major about 7 years ago.
I'd suggest talking to Dell for the issue. the dead dot, black and white line and white patch are more likely due to the screen connectors. dead dot could be a dead pixle which should not show up after 2 month use. Anyway, call Dell. 3 major parts may involve, the screen, the connector and the mobo. Just prey it's not the mobo... I'll prey for you anyway...
The keyboard light are LED light arrays. controller is on mobo and software just notify the controller to light up a certain part with specified color and pattern. I'd assume it's the light controller, which is part of the mobo, that not executing commands correctly. As they light up correctly sometime and after alienfx opens.
I'm not saying you'll have to replace mobo. If Dell's sending a tech, make sure he flushes BIOS and check connector first befor swapping anything. Those guys usually got no idea what they are doing but "michanically" swapping related parts. I bet at least half the chance you're good parts will be swapped out.
Like I said, just prey the mobo is not faulty and really needs replacement. I've read about 10% mobo having real issue before I purchased my R3. Your problems look mostly software and some minor hardware connection issue to me. So make sure they rule out any software issue first instead of going straight to hardware swapping. And yes, BIOS is software too. Rule out that problem as well. -
Thanks alot guys, will give them a buzz and see what they're on..
Well, if not 100% hassell free, as least not 3 4 things goign wrong at the same time on a machine cost that much... should they have used higher quality parts reflected in cost or simply a high mark up... seems i now know the answer -
I got R3 for HDMI in as G74SX doesn't have it. With the latest Nvidia driver, it never works. I have to flash back to 260 version on Dell website to use R3 as seconday monitor...
Tell me about issues... -
That doesnt sound nice at all tho lol I took the chance and placed the bet on alienware this time.. my previous was a canadian toshiba m60 top range and lasted me from day 1 release till 2 mth ago, booming 5-6 yrs? never a problem.. but this time not even 2 months and its cost alot more...although my last one never said its a performance machine..

I had a macbook for 4 years. It "died" coz my kid been kneeling on it for the screen. Got no idea why he did it... 30lb on the keyboard, nothing doesn't break. That's why he's not allowed to even touch my R3. Ultimate destruction mode...
My desktop is about the same age. I'm having a refurbished mobo which gives me problem about 3 times. Am replacing it early next year. I fine tuned it myself and didn't OC or anything fancy with it. It is a solid SLI rig that can handle almost anything. Only software makes it lag is MATLAB, PS, BF3 and Crysis... Not Crysis 2 but original Crysis. I've only re-installed Windows twice and upgraded to Win7 about a year ago.
Solid comes from knowledge about what you have and what you are doing unless what you have is uncapable of creating problems. I guess your toshiba is the example for uncapable of creating issues. Same is my macbook. -

If you can take a picture of the screen defects/horizonal pixel line it will expedite the process. My screen developed a thin green line of pixels down the right side of the screen about a month or so after delivery. Called Alienware support, emailed the picture and an appointment for replacement was arranged within 15 minutes. Two days later I had a new screen, installed by a tech who was knowledgeable, experienced, careful and very nice. AW support could not have been more responsive; once they confirmed the problem, there was no resistance or gamesmanship. They just did the right thing. Document the problem. They can't see a screen defect or anomaly by remote connection to your computer, so take a picture for them.

so this should fix the dead pixels and the whiteness on the screen

Is the issue with the screen persistent when you switch between internal and external graphics card? That could help point to a problem...

Thanks everyone, got a photo and ready to contact them for it.
Hope they'll be good as i am in the UK..so everything is known to be slow...
