    I've asked this several places, can't seem to find an answer anywhere...
    Care to help out?
    "Quick questions for eyefinity monitors"

    I've got everything I need in my newegg wishlist and i'll be buying things as they come in but I have one last question before I pull the trigger on anything.
    My video cards Video Out: VGA female, HDMI Female, Mini DP female.
    For eyefinity does it matter what the monitor inputs are? 3 I've got are D-Sub in, do I need DVI or does it not really matter?

    also I need 2 adaptors, I know the miniDP to vga one is active, but do I need an active adaptor for HDMI to VGA?
    This is my newegg wishlist: Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg
    Should I switch anything out?

    another iteration of the question+info

    I read the literature on the help page and I'm just curious of one thing before I pull the trigger on my screen set up.

    I have an Alienware M17X R4 with an AMD HD7970M card, which according to the AMD specs sheet supports up to 6 monitors in eyefinity.

    My laptop has Mini DP out, VGA out, and HDMI Out.
    The monitors I have/Will have are all VGA input.

    Does the input of the monitors matter? Do require 3 monitors with DVI inputs? Or will VGA work as long as i have the correct adaptors?

    I was reading here: AMD Eyefinity FAQs

    What are the basic requirements for connecting multiple displays?

    Connecting multiple monitors for AMD Eyefinity technology couldn’t be simpler. There are four easy rules to remember:
    1.The first two monitors can connect to the graphics card with any display output on your product: HDMI, VGA, DVI or DisplayPort.
    2.The third (or greater) display must be connected to the graphics card via DisplayPort.
    3.If your monitor does not have a DisplayPort connection, you will need an inexpensive active DisplayPort adapter for it. DVI to DP adapters can be had for less than $30 USD.2
    4.Every family of GPUs supports a different maximum number of displays.

    Do I need DVI input monitors?
    I have 2 adaptors, an in HDMI to VGA out(Active?), and a MiniDiplayPort to VGA out(ACTIVE).
    then my laptop has vga out.

    If I convert all my outputs to VGA, will this affect eyefinity? or does only the connectors to the GPU matter?

    You can only put one display over VGA. In theory you can have it like this (but it depends on implementation):

    Screen 1 - internal laptop screen;
    Screen 2 - VGA;
    Screen 3 - HDMI;
    Screens 4,5,6 - DisplayPort (with splitter).

    Don't try to split multiple VGA signals. It won't work.
    This is all theoretic. You should contact an Alienware rep for clarifications.

    I'm talking about converted adaptors though.
    An HDMI in to VGA out active adaptor that has a chipset in it for conversion.

    As well as A mini diplsyport in to VGA out, ACTIVE adaptor that has a chipset in it.

    Its not splitting a signal it using 3 different port outputs for video.
    only one of which is VGA, others are source active adaptors to input VGA monitors
    (did you read the post at all...?)

    There are four easy rules to remember:

    the literature is referencing ports, not interface on the monitors.
    until 3. which its referencing DVI to MiniDP

    its not one vga split

    its 1 native vga out, and 2 converted to vga output via active adaptors.

    meaning the outputs are
    1 vga
    1 hdmi
    1 minidp
