So I've had this laptop for quite a while. Upgraded its GPU twice now. Currently have a GTX 1060. When I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7, it seemed to break a lot of features on this laptop. Such as the headphone and mic jacks not working. Since I upgraded the gpu and switched to windows 10 nearly at the same time, I don't know which one might have broke the HDMI in feature the first time, but after I did, the sound from the HDMI In stopped working. "HDMI In" just up and vanished one day under "playback devices" even though I saw it in there working fine after the upgrades were said and done. While the sound stopped working for whatever reason, the screen still worked fine.

Now upon my second GPU upgrade, the HDMI In doesn't work at all. It's just a black screen. If I plug external speakers to whatever console I'm trying to connect I can still hear the console outputting stuff just fine. I understand this is probably a driver issue and that the GPU isn't compatible with the screen hdmi in screen. But I was wondering if anyone knew of a possible fix before I write-off the HDMI In feature on the laptop completely since it was probably my favorite thing about this laptop.

on my M17x R4, HDMI input is working on windows 10, however I have no sound from HDMI input, I'm running a K4000M but I think your issue is related to the drivers "OSD" (On Screen Display) not installed.

I remember reading about that only some specific Nvidia drivers are fully compatible with HDMI-IN. My HDMI in doesn't even work at all just a black screen also. So the HDMI is a complete hit or miss when you install a new graphics card unless you test every driver and see which one is compatible. Don't quote me on this though as I might be wrong. for the headphone jack and microphone jack not working, Mine works even with the install of windows 10 and the 1070 in my M17xR4. Maybe another driver issue there

Makes sense I suppose. Shame theres no reliable solution if thats the case. Do you know which drivers might help with the headphone jack issue? I might have missed reinstalling something, who knows.

Let me shed some light on this..I have used 680M SLI, 780M SLI (unofficial config), and 1060 (unofficial config) on my M18xR2. I had HDMI IN working every time. No matter which driver I used, I always used the latest one.

I recommend making sure AW OSD and Command Center are properly installed.

Second, try a different HDMI cable. You need to push the cable in a decent amount, some cables have a thick head and don't allow proper contact.

Third, for sound, go to recording devices, choose HDMI IN, click it's properties and make sure "Listen to this device" is checked and playback device is your speakers.

I have a M17xR3 coming and plan to do K4000M inside it. Currently has 6990M in it so I will get to experiment with this again. But from my experience it's normally either the HDMI cable or the drivers not installed.

Awesome! Glad to know its possible. However, I've already reinstalled the OSD driver and did the repair option for command center unless a complete reinstall is necessary.

And I've used 3 different hdmi cables that work fine elsewhere.

And I remember now that one day, after no major changes like downloading or installing something or any hardware/os upgrade, the "hdmi in" device under recording devices (I was mistaken in my previous comment, I remember now that it shows up in recording devices) just suddenly disappeared from the recording devices list for no seemingly apparent reason. And yes, the "show disabled/disconnected devices" option is checked. I discovered that issue years back and its probably been the strangest technical issue I've ever had. I've tried reinstalling all audio-related drivers to no avail.

Try reinstalling the audio drivers (creative recon 3di)
