    Hi all,

My Alienware M17X R4 is frequently either turning on for a couple of seconds and then off again when I try to start it up, or is giving me a 5 beep code, before booting. When it boots, it has lost its previous date and time settings. I've checked and the 5 beep code seems to indicate a problem with BIOS power, however I've changed the BIOS battery and the machine is still doing the same thing.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

    Thanks in advance.

wow what a strange bug. I recommend to power drain the system by removing main battery and CMOS battery. Press and hold power button for a minute. If that doesn't clear it, reset the bios. if that doesn't work, reflash. if that doesn't work, replace RAM. if that doesn't work, you have a hardware bug somewhere on the board or something is shorting the board someplace.
