I've been using my Alienware M17X R4 for four months now and I could notice that the lighting has gone dimmer. For instance, there is a noticeable difference in brightness between the left and right speaker (One is way dinner than the other. ). Any info on what might have caused this and any solutions to this matter would be really appreciated.

Hi, well they are not on different circuits so I'd say the dimmer one has gone bad. Have you tried different color schemes to see if it is always dimmer?

Yeah, I tried. I tried changing every single option with restarting. No luck yet.

Sounds like you're going to have to make 'that' call. If you can get clear pics before calling, it may speed up them sending a replacement part without too much trouble shooting. Good Luck

My left one is slightly dimmer than the right one if that helps. Most likely to the placement of the LED I think the right one is closer to the grill vs the left one.

Just contact the tech support personnel on your region, they could replace that under the warranty.

Does it really require a replacement? OMG! It's been only 4 months,

If you look on the pictures for the notebookreview of the R4 you can kinda see the right one is slightly brighter I think.

I don't remember as to when I start noticing it or that the problem has been from before.. Like you've said, one is dimmer than the other.
Also, the plastic covering the steel around the speakers isn't that good. What I mean is I could see a gap between their joining and actually could see light coming through.

So, you mean to say that it happens normally and I need to replace it?

Its hard to believe that after all these days, it's only now I am noticing this stuff? Alienware is a master of disguise.

So, what do you suggest? Should I make the call? I'm seeing it now almost everywhere. :)

I'm sure dell will replace it if you ask but maybe a new one wont be any better? I noticed my R4 display was much dimmer (even in BIOS) than the R3 it replaced. I had dell replace the panel but it was no better, turned out it is normal (and dell bumped up the brightness on the POST screen progress bar at the next BIOS release!)

Maybe I'll wait till my warranty is on the last month and ask then, hmm?
