Hey guys my Alienware M17x charger just packed up and i was wondering what the best replacement would be? I have looked a few threads and it seems there is allot of talk about different wattage.

The one i have at the moment is like this one, but the leads are heavy and the brick is huge

GENUINE DELL ALIENWARE M17X CHARGER AC ADAPTER PA-9E PA9E ADP-240AB GA240PE1 on eBay!

i also found this one, looks way better than the original one but is it as good?

For Dell PA-9E CHARGER ALIENWARE M17x AC ADAPTER | eBay

    Any suggestions guys?
As this laptop is such endless trouble i was wondering if it is feasible to strip the laptop down and put it inside a tower with a normal PSU. The only problems with that i can see is the setup inside the m17x going in to a tower may be a problem and also that the ports are all different. Has anyone tried anything like this before?

A laptop is not like a desktop. You cannot mount it in a tower unless you built the case yourself. And you can't power it with a desktop PSU. Laptop parts are substantially different to desktop parts.

Anyways back to your question, I would not buy a generic adapter. It will have compatibility issues guaranteed. Plus that big bulky PSU runs a lot cooler than smaller models.
