I got my machine in Dec 2009, so that means its an R2?? I think that's right but couldn't figure out when R1 switched to R2. proc is a T9600.

I updated to the latest video driver last month and also tried overclocking but rolled back to what I thought was where I started. I didn't write down or save the OEM settings first; clearly, I screwed that up.

I upgraded memory to 8GB of Kingston a few weeks ago; used their tool to choose which sodimms to buy.

So...while playing BF2 for awhile, the machine freezes up. Sometimes, the screen freezes and a loud BUZZZ is heard until I do a hard reboot. Tonight, the screen flashed and the buzz of course.

Any ideas about the culprit? Obviously....several changes were made in system config over the last six weeks or so. Based upon it only happening after gaming for a bit, I'm going to guess its a heat-related issue and therefore tied to the overclocking of the CPU and the GPU (which I thought were back to close to OEM).

Here are screenshots of the current settings:

PGT, I can't tell you what your problem is, but I can tell you that with a T9600 & an internal/integrated nvidia 9400 GPU that you've got an R1. R2's all have i7 processors.
Suggest you take a look at the nvidia R1 threads - there has been a lot of chatter about freezes, BSOD.s etc. I fought display problems the entire time I had my R1. My R2 has been pretty solid, however I run it stock (drivers, not OC or Vcore stuff at all) with a i7 740 & dual nvidia 285's

Yep, you have the R1, not the R2.
And that's the problem all R1 users are having.
You have two options. If you wanna use the latest NVIDIA drivers, you can turn the PCIE Gen 2 off in the bios.
or you can simply just use the older non-verde drivers. Downside is, it won't be optimized (sli support, etc) for latest games.
There's a lot of threads about that issues. Read around.

thanks. I did read around and saw the driver conflict. Without knowing for sure whether mine was an R1 or R2, I wasn't about to go in and start making changes given the recent ones have caused my issues. This thing has been rock-solid until I did so.

Thanks for the info guys...I'll look back at the threads about the driver conflicts and get it corrected.

couple of thoughts: Try going into your BIOS (F2 at the Alienhead screen on startup...ADVANCED tab.....GRAPHICS setting...DISABLE PCIE gen2. This seems help most people.

What video driver did you update to? Some work better than others. Your symtoms are very common.

Are you still running an OC on you video cards? If so what clocks? Pushing the cards too far can cause these symptoms too!
