Any other users experienced this? i have installed my 16GB Kingston HyperX 1866 PNP rams, but the system only reports it as 8gb (4gb each). Even in the BIOS it shows up as 4gb each.. I have tried it on both my M17X r2 and r3, both same results.. I have previously used this kit with my Sager 8130 with no problems whatsover, so I am really baffled.. Is it because the system only supports 1600(or 1866) sticks of up to 4gb that's why it only reports it as such? Any info or advise will be much appreciated.. Cheers!

did you replace all the ram sticks?
2 are accessible directly, for the other two, they are beneath the keyboard. you will have to take the whole laptop apart.

if ram sticks of different configurations/types are installed, they all will run on the 'specs' of the lowest one. running different types of ram together might be a bad idea.

do use same brand and type of ram sticks at once.

Please tell me you have a 64-bit OS installed? Because OS-level ram limitation is what initially comes to mind for me.

32Bit can only address 4GB, it would still show 16GB as installed though anyway.

Yes I removed the 4x4gb rams on all slots on my r3 beforehand, because i wouldn't want to mix my 1866 hyperx with slower ones now would I?

It's not an OS limitation, because as i have mentioned, it is reported as 4gb sticks even in BIOS. Again it runs fine at 1866 speeds and even reach 1920+mhz with a little cpu overclock.

If it matters i am on A12 Bios on the r3, and again the problem is that thr sticks is read as 4gb each by d system, Thanks!

My 20gb works fine on A12, so I don't think it's the BIOS. And the BIOS seeing the ram is not dependent on the OS- you could install 32bit linux if you wanted, and the BIOS would still act the same. Remember, the BIOS is pre-boot, and is below the operating system. (Stands for Basic Input/Output System)

And for clarification, you have 2 8GB sticks? Or 4 4GB sticks?

I know, that's why it's weird that the system reports it as 4gb each irregardless of OS installed, and again, i have a 16gb kit 2x8gb sticks .

What does your CPU-Z and the sticker on the modules report?

Any ideas guys? I'm still missing 8gb of my total ram.. and note that this kit is recognized fine by my sager 8130, 2x8gb 16gb total running at 1866mhz speed as they are PNP.. how come my m17x r3 only reads it as 2x4gb? Totally stumped..

Such an odd problem, no idea why half wouldn't register like that.

It runs at 1866mhz though, correct? The frequency isn't dropping down to 1600mhz?

I ordered the same RAM in 4gb modules, so I wanted to make sure the m17x supports that frequency.

Hi yes, it really annoys me that i lost half of my memory.. but speedwise no problem, it runs at full 1866mhz, if overclock the cpu @4% it also clocks up to 1940mhz, getting a score of around ~25000MB/s on winsat memtest, my cpu is 2860qm btw.

Attempt a full power drain to reset the CMOS.
This will also reset any custom BIOS settings to default, so don't forget to check that if you made any changes.
