My M17X-R2 has a problem in restarting, after laptop shutting down, it doesn't show anything on screen as if it shuts down but lights are still on. Only shutting down the laptop and starting it on works. Any solution for this problem guys?

    Thanks

This happened to all three of my M17xR2 systems. POST'ing problems is the main reason why I don't currently have one.

Woow Mandrake, 3. It seems a common error. I want to ask, after doing a clean install, the touch buttons near the screen work perfectly buy nothing gets shown on the screen of the process. Same thing with the Fn buttons, job is done but nothing is shown in screen. Did I miss a driver or software?

Interesting question. Everyone assumes the sum of the parts are equal to the whole. This is not always the case. You may in some cases need previous drivers/patches that may no longer be readily available on the driver and install page and they must be accessed via submenus. It all depends on how each particular driver/install was written. With the bios you DO NOT need to install them in consecutive order however with other driver/downloads you may. This is probably why so many people fail at clean installs. I have had this issue many times before and it usually ends up in hours on the phone with Dell. If Dell were perfect clean installs would be a breeze.

Also there are many drivers/downloads listed that DO NOT pertain to YOUR system. Some of those are ambiguous and you must be careful to filter them out. The 4870 & 5870 driver is an obvious example but there are other examples that are not so obvious. Clean installs are not for the faint of heart. This is why Dell leaves the original install on the partition.

How soon after purchase did this problem start? After your clean install have you loaded any third party software? It is easier to diagnose this problem with out any third party software. Have you spoken to Alienware?

    Also go to:
Control Panel > Performance options > Advanced tools > View performance details in event log > Diagnostics performance > Operational.

This will give you a list of warnings and errors and Event ID codes. It may give you an idea as to what is causing the problem or it might just give you a generic event ID.

No offense, but people are trying to help you. It seems like you don't want their help or something.

Which version of the ATI drivers do you have installed?

The reason is, I had the same thing start happening to me after I installed 10.6 on my single 5870. Shutdown or restart would progress all the way to a black screen, and then...nothing. "Alienware" and keyboard lights still lit, but that was it. It would also do it when I do a simple LOGOFF of Windows, or even when going to sleep.

When I reverted back to 8.692.2 (but for some reason, Catalyst version field shows 10.6 in Information Center), it works properly now for shutdown, restart, logoff and sleep.

I've experienced the exact same issue with the 10.6 drivers.

You're using an old bios that never shipped with 5870 crossfire. What do you expect?
