    Hi,
I've got a M17xR2 and love it. I've had it nearly 3 years now. I'm having problems with the power. The power supply keeps disconnecting and it goes to battery. I though it was the power adapter so used a friends and its not the Power Adapter Supply Cord. I have to push the connection into the laptop to one side to get power but as soon as I let go the power goes. Any ideas on how to fix this. What's a rough cost if I sent it to Dell to fix. I only had a 2 year warranty so would have to pay.
    Help!
    Many thanks!
    Russ

Its probably the DC jack on the laptop. Its probably coming lose. Check it. If thats the case local shops may resolder it for like 85 bucks.

I had the same issue with my r2, thankfully I am still under warranty. They replaced my mobo and I haven't had any issues since. Good luck, I know how frustrating this problem is.

Yea it's just Scott jack coming loose. If you are good at soldering, then it's just a part worth few bucks otherwise take it a local shop, very easy to do. Just need to des older the old jack and solder new jack.

I miss older cable style jacks on laptops, it was super easy to replace, replacing jack and cable was literally just like replacing ram.

We normally replace the motherboard for that issue, send me a PM and I'll provide you with further details.

Did you check to see if the blue LED on the tip of the power cord is going out when you drop to battery?

If so, your PSU is the problem.

I was gonna mention that it could be some other electronic component as well, but if you've isolated it to the power jack that's even better. It looks like the DC power jack is just kind of sitting all alone on the motherboard. Are you going to try to replace it yourself?

Don't replace a motherboard for that, it will cost an arm and an eye from dell. A DC jack is very easy to find on ebay, give it with a beer to an electronics friend and it's done.
