Right, Hope this is in the right place....

I recently purchased a M17X from a Dell reseller. Before i purchased the item i called Alienware / Dell and asked if i could buy a warrenty from Dell if i purchaseed this notebook, the rep said absolutly:-

I recieved my notebook and boy am i happy. I do however have a request
Are there any Alienware reps ( Brian springs to mind ) on here that can help
I called Alienware and asked for a warrenty quote for my machine. Upon this request i have been passed from pillar to post, with no luck. Today i was advised that my service tag is locked and Dell cannot add warrenty untill the reseller conatcts them. I called the reseller who advise they have never heared of this and would not know how to do this. So it appears i am stuck not being able to get warrenty from Dell.. I do have warrenty from my reseller but i would have liked to purchase some, irect from Dell. Is there any way round this?
If it is possible like Dell state, but there is a break in the chain between Dell and the reseller how do i fix this. I have no issues with my machine. I have had it a month now so i am unable to return it to the reseller, thanks to dud info from the Alienware sales team
Any help will be gladly excepted

PS i am based in the UK if that makes any difference

You should be able to do a warranty transfer. Just need the sellers info. There's a link for it on the Dell site.

If service tag is on hold, it could mean that the seller got the laptop for a replacement of his old system, and did not return the old system. It could be his old system being sold to you also.

Either way, he sold a system with warranty that's not transferable, so I would contact the seller and ask for return/refund unless he can take care of it himself.

With that said, warranty on hold means a tech support like Brian, can't do a thing unless it's resolved with customer deparment.

    Good luck.

What is the process when paying for a replacement? I received an R2 however I haven't been prompted to send my old one back yet. It has been about 2 weeks so far.

Your warranty will not transfer and your account will be busted when you call them in future for repair. Call and ask for a shipping label to send it back.

Your account is on hold until you send it back and that would be stealing.

It's called fraud. Stop asking stupid questions on doing some thing wrong.

If you purchased the original laptop under your account, you will probably get charged for it also.

It was purchased from a reputable reseller in the UK...So no it is not on hold as they are awaiting it sent back to Dell.

The issue i have is noone seems to know how i can get it reacitvated, Neither Dell or the Reseller.

I was asking if someone like Brian could help as they may know the team i need to contact. I work for an IT company and although i may be the one who can resolve an issue, i try to pass my clients / the Gen public to the right department as it is easier for me to put them through then it is for them to track the right department down

Hope i was a bit clearer

Not sure about UK, but in the U.S., the warranty starts on the date the system is purchased/delievered, and it usually doesn't stop or hold. The warranty expiration date is set when you make the purchase.
