    Uninstall v.6330 IDT 92HD73 (Programs and Features)>reboot>Run>AppData\Roaming>delete IDT folder>regedit(Registry Editor)>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software>delete IDT>Delete MaxxAudio.

    7-Zip(v.9.25)>extract downloaded file "Audio_IDT_W8_X02_A00_Setup-CGH70_ZPE">Run setup.exe>reboot.

Control panel>open IDT>Advanced>Uncheck enable power management>Main> Maxx Audio 3 Movie preset>Waves> MaxxBass 55-65>MaxxTreble 55-65>MaxxStereo 80>Equalizer>Default Preset>Speakers / Headphones>Test speakers twice>Close IDT>Again open IDT Speakers / Headphones>Test speakers, now speakers are properly configured (if needed repeat "test speakers" after graphics driver update)

Improved sound quality and no Hanging/Freezing upon launch (Fixed Windows compatibility triggering, randomly not playing system sounds e.g. UAC).

IDT original .inf includes M17XR3 (92HD73)= %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_ 111D&DEV_7675&SUBSYS_ 10280490, Dell offering updated Windows 8 IDT drivers for low end laptops, nice

I'm not quite clear on reading the title of the thread and your guide, j95, but can I install this driver on Win7 x64?

Yeah but most R3 users are unaware of this...Klipsch speakers are very good and with this driver it compensates well for the lack of a Subwoofer.

Cheers j95, I followed your guide & installed the sound drivers, and applied the settings. The sound does seem quite a bit better. More clarity, and greater volume in general. Is the improved sound due to the updated driver, or the settings that you recommended for MaxxBass 55-65>MaxxTreble 55-65>MaxxStereo 80?

As a side note, when I plug my headphones in I don't get the pop up anymore asking if it's headphones or front speakers that I've plugged in, even though Jack Monitoring is enabled. If I plug my headphones in, and then go to the IDT control panel, then it does recognise that it's the headphones I've plugged in, but I don't get that pop up anymore? (Not really a problem, because I don't plug in external speaker systems to my R3, just the headphones).

    +rep for the info.

EDIT: why do you have to run the 'Test Speakers' after each graphics driver install? Does it somehow reset the correct settings that might have been changed due to the graphics driver installation?

Maxx Audio 3 improves sound quality also disabling power management is required, my settings Maxx Audio 3 Movie preset> MaxxBass 59>MaxxTreble 61>MaxxStereo 80>Equalizer Default Preset>Volume 65-85, only once I had to repeat 'Test Speakers' due to Nvidia drivers clean install messed up IDT configuration, with this driver version I don't use headphones for gaming anymore only MP but it should work as v6330 try repeating the configuration then settings will stick/pop up.

The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me) sounds good here..........

    Haha, good stuff!

I tried uncheck jack monitoring box > close IDT > open IDT > check jack monitoring box > close IDT. That didn't bring back the Jack Monitoring popup. I don't mind it being like that as long as everything else is functioning ok and the sound quality is good.

Thanks for the reply. I tried all that just now, but it's still not working. (I don't think it was anything to do with the system tray icon, as I had that disabled with the last driver installed, I have it enabled with this one though).

Actually, the one time I could see this being an issue is when I play itunes through my HiFi. At that point I normally select front speakers (rather than headphones) as the configuration when the jack monitoring pop up displays upon plugging in.

EDIT: Also tried re-installing the IDT sound driver, but that didn't work either, still no pop-up. Does the jack monitoring pop-up work for you?

Cheers bigtonyman! Well good to know it's not just my system, must be a peculiarity with that version of the IDT in combination with the M17xR3. I'll try hooking it up to my HiFi, and if it sounds rubbish because it thinks that I've connected it to a set of headphones, then I might consider reinstalling the old version of IDT!

Uninstall IDT (Programs and Features)>reboot>Run>AppData\Roaming>delete IDT folder>regedit(Registry Editor)>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software>delete IDT>Delete MaxxAudio.
    Browse extracted driver folder Audio_IDT_W8_X02_A00_Setup-CGH70_ZPE\ WDM>overwrite both files W92HDM69.ini / W92HDM69.MPS>run setup.exe
This should work and if you hook up the HIFI using a headphone connector just lower the volume.

Been having a issue with my audio after upgrading to Windows 8, this driver finally fixed it for me :) One question though, while trying to set up a 5.1 system all the speakers work but only the front speakers reply while testing (both in speaker setup and idt) and I can't adjust the speakers separately in idt. It's the same case scenario no matter what order the cables are plugged in. Does anybody else have this problem?

I have been following this thread but still can't install my IDT software. Please how can I get it to work?

I have an Alienware M17XR3 using windows 7 64 and A12 bios. Current updated version of IDT 92HD73 audio driver was working fine. Had to reformat HD and now whenever I try to install the IDT 92HD73 software I get an error "Hardware detected is not supported by this software. It refuses to install the software. I know this software originally worked and installed previously without a problem. I have tried everything that I can think of but the installation will not install. Please, does anyone have ideas as to what I can do or a different software to install.

My Bios is A12 and the integrated hd audio device is set as enabled. i have done a regedit of IDT with nothing found to delete. There is no IDT folder in windows programs/features. I am trying to install the IDT file "Audio_IDT_W8_X02_A00_Setup-CGH70_ZPE.exe" from the link at the previous notebook review thread. Is this the correct file to install or is there a different one I should be installing???? I am also trying to install the IDT 92HD73 and all give me the same error "Hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software. I am getting sound but it sucks, very tinny, low, and nothing close to how it used to work with the IDT software program installed. It's driving me nuts. Help!!!Thank You.

Back again after some time to install a new GTX 780M in Alienware M17x R3, 3D 120Hz screen.
I did run against some troubles with the IDT driver / Maxx Audio settings.
I found out the following using IDT Control Panel. Unchecking the option [Advanced>Enable Power Management], resulted in black screen and sound getting messed up.
So I need to leave [Enable Power Management] checked

    See also
    http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x-aw-17/4829-780m-gtx-m17xr3-integrated-soundcard-working-again-no-more-usb-soundcard-3.html#post99693

    Here I mention the following:
This update does not seem to work because of this power management setting, which (I think) like is default unchecked in this version.
I think the old driver v.6330 IDT 92HD73 has this default enabled, so no black / white etc screens.
This does however restrict the sound improvement, because power management needs to be disabled.

    @J95: any ideas to workaround?

j95, hope you see this, lol.

    I have:
    M17x R3
    Win 8.1 w/ 680m.

In my attempts to get my HDMI in to properly function. I've discovered I must've not installed my IDT or RealTech drivers.

It seems that I have two High Definition Audio Devices. I currently have sound, however the drivers are from Microsoft and I can't get any IDT driver to install. I keep getting "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. This Install will be aborted.". I'm going to keep looking around for a fix, but hopefully someone will have already fixed this issue, heh. I've tried to uninstall this Microsoft driver, however, the hardware disappears, I reboot and the damn system re-installs the Microsoft drivers.

I've tried several drivers from Laptop2go (whatever the site is called) and from the Win 8 install. I doubt it, but could something have changed from 8 to 8.1?

your system identically with mine..... Yes I'm using Windows 8.1 also and IDT Driver even the IDT control panel is working.

The case is, I Installed this driver while still using win 7. and upgrading into win 8 without fresh install, and then directly Updating it into Win 8.1. And yes, I'm using the download link from the page 1 on this thread. Different from you that coming from fresh installing the Win 8. Maybe the driver installer isn't compatible on Win 8 anymore since already 2 years old from the first post ?

Did you already try installing IDT driver from the Dell Support link ?

Yeah, I've tried using the dell utility. Modified ones from this post and the original ones. I just can't get them to install. I still have Win 7, but as far as it all goes, I thought doing the upgrade option wasn't smart, lol. Wish there were some way to just force them lol.

Any other suggestions is welcome and thanks for the response.

Maybe I'll give in and try the upgrade option and see if it helps.

Should I install all drivers and apps (ACC ect)?

Hey first ever post on here but i thought I would share my findings regarding the "Hardware detected is not supported by this software" on Windows 8.1.
I was in the same boat as jerrynmn1 and was able to get around this issue by Disabling driver signature enforcement, See link below.

How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8.1 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)

Hope this comes in useful for anyone else having this issue and at the very least it will help me to jog my memory next format :p
