I have both the r1, and the r2, both maxed out ,the r2 which I have only had a few days.
For the M17 r2 I noticed that the Power cord that goes from the Brick to the Laptop has change in size, it's actually much smaller in diameter than the r1 , but the wattage remains the same.
Has anyone else notice this? I wonder if there was internal changes made to the r2 power brick.
The newer Power brick still fits and works in the r1.
Any ideas?

No, I haven't seen any difference. In fact, I'm still using my r1 brick with my r2.

Are you positive they didn't give you the lower wattage adapter? I've only seen one size 240W power brick for the M17x, regardless of R1 or R2, or even different manufacturer of the brick.
Mind posting a picture comparison? -
If that's the case, the diameter of the wire shouldn't make too much difference. Most household electrical wiring only has 1.5mm-2mm diameter wires, and those can handle more than 2500W.
The 240W Alienware power adapter can put out somewhere close to 300W when really pushed, but even that doesn't need very thick wires to get it to the laptop. A 4mm wide cable can easily hold a pair of 0.75mm wires, and that's all that should be needed. -
Ohhh "cord".. oops.
Shouldn't make any difference.
