I am not very tech savvy so i will try and explain my situation as best as possible.

My M17 all of sudden stopped running games. Every time I launch a game, I'm greeted with a different error. "Failed to create D3D surface for Window. No GPU supporting D3D10_FEATURE_9_1 or higher was found." or "Your video card does not support alpha blending."

I also noticed that when i run dxdiag, under the display tab, all directx features are not available. Also, my laptop is surprisingly much cooler as it seems the fan and video card are not running.

i have tried various restore points but none have cured my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My specs:
    M17r4
    16GB RAM
AMD Radeon 7970M (catalyst version 14.4)
    i7
    Windows 7

well a good place to start is always clean install your video driver or updated if you have not done so. If that did not help then try and older driver as a test. Also BIOS update is always good. I know older versions of m17x had some issues like this that were solved with BIOS updates. I'm no expert but have had some experience with these machines good luck.

Does your card still shows up in the bios/device manager?
Like monts367 says, a clean reinstall can help too.
