Have you tried plugging it in? was your battery charged the last time you used it?

-

-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
remove battery and AC power, unplug the cmos battery, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, replug it, start machine (hopefully)
-
Test your brick 1st, i.e. try a different power cord, a different power point etc... If the light doesn't come on on the brick not much you can do till you get it replaced. -
yes i am hoping somethig is wrong with the power cord, when i plug it in the power the light goes blue but as soon as i put the laptop end in the laptop it turn off. i have a guy from dell coming some time soon with a new motherboard and brick so i will let you guys know what is going on.
thank a lot for all the advice! -
Did a search and kept digging up stuff on the m15 and m17 models (ugh!--why the crummy naming conventions, AW???), but how solid are the hinges on the M17x? I know it's kinds hard to tell on a new machine how the hinges will be 2 years from now, but would appreciate your best guess. Any worries about cracking over time? Any comments on lid stability when open? Any worrisome or uneven gaps when the lid is closed?
Yep, I guess you could say I'm becoming unhinged and flipping my lid!!! -
Only the original area51-m15x had a hinge issue. That issue doesn't exist on any of the newer models. That original hinge problem was also realized right away so there will be no surprises with the new systems.

I don't want to start a thread just for this...
Just wondering if any of you know of the best and especially the thinnest screen I could get for a secondary screen for my M17X. I travel a lot and I want something easy to take on the go.
19" or 21" would be great.
Thanks for all your help. -
Should post this in the acessories forum

Does anyone have info according to the battery.
(I couldn't find thread referring to this problem)
I ordered my alienware M17x last august, but the kept delaying my laptop, for more than 6 weeks in a row, so my alienware was delivered at the end of october, too late for me. I had to go for my study to Europe (october 2nd, I'm staying 3 months, (Europe is awesome btw). So my father sent me the laptop.
My problem: the M17x won't start/boot without the ac-power plugged in. I can only boot the M17x with the ac power plugged in, when I unplug the cable, while my laptop is running, it shuts down immediatly. What is going on? It's hard for me to call during the week to the alienware support, because of the costs, calling from europe to the usa is pretty expensive with my iphone.
When I click on the battery/plug icon in the lower right corner it says 99% available (plugged in, charging). It keeps saying this, for more than 4 weeks right now.
Does anyone now how I can solve this problem, and how to run my M17x without plugging it in all the time ??? -
Get a new battery?

It's a motherboard problem. My original M1730 did the same thing. You will need to get your motherboard switched out, my advise is to ask for a new computer altogether since you just got it.

Hi guys!
I'm new to the forum.
Not actually an alienware user, but with your help hopefully i will.
I'm from Romania and there is a contest with a chance to win an AW M17X computer.
To do this, one must GUESS the serial # of that certain laptop. The winner will either guess the EXACT SN (highly unlikely - IMHO) or give a value that is very close to the real one. Kind of like that "The Price is Right " show.
I know that in the 8 Character SN there is some information coded about the production date/region and what else may be.
I'm hoping that if i identify some of these characters correctly, i would multiply my chances.
Could anyone please give me an example of what form would this SN have?
Thanks! -

don't post this in more than one thread or you will be banned
You already posted this somewhere else -
@scook9 My bad. I wasn't sure where to post so i did the double post. Sorry...

I certainly hope no one here is dumb enough to pass out their service code. They should be banned just for being dumb. -

Ya, doing that today....have been too busy with school to call them during the day. Coming up on 3 weeks, someone is getting chewed out over the phone
And I do not have the original CPU lol, would have to buy a Q9000 -
So you guys are actually able to use your M17x's? Mine is wicked unstable.
-
-
Hmm, no RAID 0 and no SLI. Interesting.
I kind of like 130 mb/s HDD performance and 1 TB of storage, but I might have to try a config w/o RAID.
I am going to try turning off a 280m to see if that helps while Dell cooks up a new BIOS. I am almost certain it is not a hardware problem. -

Already got a bid out on a Q9000
No way they are getting my QX9300! -
Won't you get the new machine first?
Can't you just do a swap when you get it?? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It will be a swap. But I have to give back what I got, an M17x with a Q9000 inside
-
Right so, I'm having trouble understanding why you wont take the Q9000 out of the machine they send you, put it into the machine you're returning, and put the QX9300 in the new machine, thus avoiding the need to consult ebay for a processor..?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
A very valid point. Wasn't remembering I will have them side by side
+rep lol -
-
hmmm....I'll take a guess then. His name is Sean Cook and he was born in 1988! Am I right? ...depressing, that was the year I started high school.
-
Even more depressing: I graduated from high school 9 years before you started high school.
-
What is the slot load blu-ray that comes with the m17x? I just got mine and I have the DVDRW and wanted to put a blu-ray into it.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It is Sam Cook, like the singer. Close though
Yes I am secook88 on eBay -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Looks like I MAY get a Q9000 pretty cheap haha, don't even need it now but I am not that jerk that retracts his bid
-
lol, u;re bidding my CPU... why do you need it when you're using QX9300 ?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Was buying it for the M17x I plan to send back (exchange for a new one) soon before I realized I didn't need to. But in retrospect, will be good to have one lying around. And sold the last one for $275, so why not haha
-
haha, alright man, I will ship it to you tomorrow.... too bad I can only sell it for 200
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
your loss is my gain
Glad to do business with you though! (and you have been paid)
-
Also, does anyone know if the M17x uses the standar LAN port or if it has Gigabit Lan? Thanks! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
it has gigabit lan
And got a Q9000 -
-
I have just bought a QX9300 (replacing the T9600) for my M17x and I've watched the CPU swap video but is there anything else I need to change - or just use a good thermal paste and use all the std stuff.
-
no, just apply thermal paste is good enough. get the AS5 or the IC. I think IC is the better one, but the AC5 works good for me.
