    1) Is it possible to order a M17x and ask for the RAM / Hard Drive to not be included?

I'm thinking of just buying the components from Newegg, but I don't want to still have to pay for the default 4GB RAM, and 320gb hard drive that Dell gives.

    2) If I can't do that, then how do I transfer over the OEM Windows 7 Home Premium license to my new hard drive If I do swap it out?

Since I'm under the impression that the Windows license that ships with the new laptop will be OEM, and is attached to the original hard drive.

No definately not I asked in fact the system won't boot up properly without those components and you'll never know if the system is good or a lemon. When I ordered my R3 today I asked about getting anything along the 4gb 1 dimm sticks and I was told there was a shortage and in any combination I couldn't get that setup, so I defaulted and went with the standard 4 gigs :( I won't be using my HDD or 4 gigs.... I also asked if it was possible to not get the HDD and not get the Ram and he said no, so whatever... I still got a great deal on my system so I'll take it.

Thanks for the heads up ^^
What price did you get yours for? I'm thinking of a similar setup on the r3.

Hm, won't I need to deactivate the windows 7 license on the old hard drive first before I install it on the new one? I also thought that if it's OEM, there's no way to "transfer" the license to a new hard drive since you can't deactivate an OEM license.

The license is NOT tied to the hard drive. Many owners have upgraded the hard drive. There are many threads in this forum about changing hard drives. I too wish I could have ordered without a hard drive and RAM. I never asked, as I already knew the answer. If I were them, I would not sell without them either. That stuff is their cash cow.

I wrote a whole thread about my R3 and how I got it what I went through to get it, final price and final option is quite marvelous actually, and it was worth the wait/headache. Luckily I have good people working at dell to help out peeps like myself, they even said they loved me, well the company I work for, but same thing :D .
