I had a x9000 cpu in my m1730, and as i edit video and render time is very important i wasnt happy excepting the 2.8hz core 2 as the m1730 worked up to 3.4ghz

your post allowed me to catch sujay out proving it was possible to get the qx9300.

and the fact he said one thing to you and another to me the same day really anoyed me.

i understand his job is to get us to settle for the lowest spec he can so i dont be grudge him.

    fingers crossed for wednesday

i keep checking ups every 5 mins driving me nuts

What happened is that i battled for along time to get the qx9300 and sujay insisted that this wasnt possible.

the day i finally settlled and gave up on the idea i excepted an order with the core duo 2.8ghz. when you posted and i found out that sujay had authorised your qx9300 system the same day!

I asked him to cancle and re order with the the qx9300.

I now have 2 lots of tracking numbers. The original 2.8 system that sujay cancled is in transit and due for delivery tomorrow.

The new system is still listed as billing information received. i phoned ups and they have a wednesday shedualed delivery but this is not possible as they have not received the system from Dell yet.

Have spoken to Sujay and he says to wait another 4 days.

I dont know wether he cancled the wrong order, or the factory did or wether im just beng sent two and the second is still on a plane from china?

question is the system thats in transit the one thats cancled will i receive it and if i do can i use it until the proper one arrives?

meanwhile im still using my old m1710 as the m1730 hasnt worked in almost 2 months!!!!

Can anyone give me the part number for the drive tray and screws. I got the kit from dell but it only had a interposer, so the parts company have confirmed the kits got screwed up. They can send me the rest if i can get the part numbers.

The part# is correct. Call them back and see if you can get another agent. As an alternative, you can also try calling Dell Warranty Parts Direct. I find them to be much more helpful when dealing with a part replacement dispatch.

    800-433-9509
    [email protected]

Just explain what you need and they should be able to provide all the info you need re: the parts. Give them the TRDD2 part# and ask for a breakdown.

HI Marine Engineer UK, I have arranged with spare parts people for you to receive the tray.

its on back order as there are none available, this maybe why there is none being provided in the kit at the moment.

it will be shipped to you when its back in stock

The situation that im talking about is in the Uk,

I have actually been talking to the Uk distributer of Dells spare parts and they have used this thread to obtain photos of the parts to email dell to tell them whats missing!

have received 4 interposers so far this week.

just need the tray, aparently Alienware customerservice are saying you only need the interposer.

Im not sure as Marine engineer Uk had his laptop supplied as a replacement the same day, ordered by the same rep delivered on same day and shipment.

He has told me that he fitted the HD with out the caddy and that a lip held it in.
and it would do for time being,

when i went to fit a second HD it was obvious that the caddy was present when you did it. the interposer was inside a piece of foam with the 4 silver screws attached inside tray.

cant see how you could fit a second HD and miss that.

but anything is possible. My M17x was built in China.

you would need to ask more people who recently received M17x to confirm all new shipments have caddy included but mine did.

I ordered my second tray on 09/09
ETA 28/09, then it changed to 04/10, then got a mail from Dell that it changed again to 22/10 and today I got a mail saying it changed to 04/11.
omg I will never get it
And I really need it 'cause all I got now is a little SSD with 128GB.
They say the reason for the delay is that the demand is bigger then the production.
What on earth are they doing?

and i also found its the same (imposer) that fits the studio 17as i needed to recover files from my sisters hard drive when her system blue screened

Does anyone have a spare kit or just the interposer as it seems to work?
I live in Belgium and have a PayPal account and willing to pay whatever is needed. Been running my Pc too long not "finished" and its getting on my nerves.

Ok, so I got my service tag from dell's website and been calling alienware support for days. I get nothing but "all reps are busy" for an hour everytime i call. This is getting frustrating.

Please tell me if anyone has a spare or even one for sale. I'd rather buy than waste all those minutes calling them again and again.

How long ago did you order yours? You also added the OCZ Vertex SSD? Nice. I'm thinking about doing the same assuming a fix for the latency stuff arrives soon. Any advice for sites offering good OCZ Vertex pricing?

You can buy a hard drive from just about any online computer part store (newegg, zipzoomfly, amazon etc..).
Just need it to be a sata notebook harddrive.

I just purchased 2 of these myself
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374 (but from amazon)

And the interposer is the little connector on the back that hooks up to the sata connectors on the harddrive so that the caddy/hd will "slip" into the laptop. (hope that makes sense)
edit.. see the picture here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5065609&postcount=69 (it is the connector on the lower right)

any ideas if this is true?

I'm kind of in a situation here. I bought a new Alienware through e-bay and i didn't know that dell/alienware wouldn't offer warranty transfer for the Alienware machines (the listing said that warranty transfer was available, and for the first time in my life, i didn't check this up online...ugh), so now i can't get a caddy through Dell or Alienware.

Anybody know a place where i could get one or if this one is really compatible? Ive searched ebay and online parts shops but have been unsuccessful =( .

Is this the M17x All Powerful? Which model? For the M15x and M17x All Powerful models there is no reason why Dell shouldn't honor a warranty transfer. See this link.

yeah, its the Dell M17x all powerful. I'm not sure what's up, either the guy is into some shady business or really doesn't know. In my case, i need the original owner purchase information cause I have to fill it throughout the International Warranty transfer form, since Im located in Puerto Rico and that's the form they require for US territories.

The laptop is awesome. it runs great. and ive had absolutely no trouble with it so far. but i cant seem to get the caddie. And i cant seem to get the info from this person either, so im kind of screwed there.

funny thing is i only bought it through ebay bec. they weren't selling em on the dell puerto rico website, which they are now =p. shouldve just waited a bit.

Honestly, if the seller is shady and doesn't want to follow through with the auction details, in this case the warranty transfer, I would file a claim (if you used PayPal or Sq Trade or whatever it is...).

You can still order the caddy straight from Dell - contact Dell Warranty Parts Direct and tell them you need to order Part# TRDD2 (SERVICE KIT, BRACKET, HDD, SECOND, M17X).

thanks for the info, ill check it out. Looks like a great alternative, just hoping that they also sell to Puerto Rico, since as a US territory we are always kind of in a gray zone.

alas, filing a claim with paypal or ebay is not an option anymore becuase im over the 30 day limit. I was pretty much sweet talked into believing that the international warranty transfer form took more around a month, and since everything arrived perfectly i trusted the info.

My brother lives in the states, another thing i might do is just use the form to tranfer the warranty over to him in the states, and once thats done, fill out the international ownership transfer form with his info, just thought about that now. might be worth a shot.

    thanx again for the info!

Just a note, I'm sure many of you already have posted similar. But I spoke to a North American Alienware PR salesman I met in person and he said that simply contact them, say it was missing when it should have been there and they'll send it to you for free.

I did this for mine, and they sent me one and it was there the following day.

Sorry if this is useless information but just adding my input.

I have a quick question. I ordered a caddy/interposer from a certain website,(not sure what it was but I can dig it up) fairly cheap. Is this caddy and interposer the same as for the 2nd HDD for the inspiron 1720? If so I may just use my old caddy. Although I'd like to keep both laptops in tact lol. Just wondering if maybe the structure to the M17X caddy is differant then the Inspiron 1720

Im in no position to place a phone call and stay in the line for 40+ min(I'm in Kuwait right now), that's why i need an email that i can use to contact dell/alienware about getting a second caddy. [email protected] is not valid anymore. So i just submitted an email to dell about missing component in my order. I'm still waiting for an answer.

If anyone have a more direct email that i get use to get this sorted out. Please share it here!

I ordered one a month ago. I called them (had to hold on for like 1:30 hour but still) and told them I needed a secondary hdd mounting kit. It arrived the next day without any charge. not even shipping. It's a month ago so I'm sure you can still get it that way. That is, if you're in the states.

I ordered directly from Dell Warranty Parts Direct. I didnt call tech support. I don't have time to play with them. I am going to leave the U.S for vacation 4days later and I need to take my laptop with me. I got all my upgrade components (cpu, rams and hds) today, just need one more hd caddy.
