I currently have an 4870 in my m17x-R2 which i thought was faulty, but it proved to work just fine.
I have since been playing with the thought to upgrade to 4870x2.
I have read a bit on these forums, and it looks quite as easy as it sounds.
My best option is to buy a set of 4870x2's instead of looknig for a slave card (which seems harder to find on itself, as well as the crossfire cable), and sell my solo master 4870.
I have experience in replacing parts in laptops, technically it won't be a problem.
As far as i could see, getting the 4870x2 combination (with heat the sinks), the accompanying crossfire cable, some screws, and a right side fan is all i need. Plug and play basically.
The question is, is it really this simple, or am I overlooking something? Is the default m17x-R2 power supply enough for this, or are there other variations of the power supply 4870x2 owners use? Do i need a certain bios revision? Is there anything else I should think about beforehand.

I think two different power supplies are issued, based on whether you order a single or dual card system. And obviously the single card PSU won't work for two cards.
However, I'm not 100% certain. -
The chassis, motherboard, and everything else is the same regardless of whether you ordered one video card or two. @OP: There is only one size PSU, and you can simply add another card with the crossfire cable as you describe. Just don't forget to apply the thermal paste to the GPU dies before seating the heat sink. -
I believe the heat sink(s) are already attached to both cards where i am getting them, but good point.
I'm gonna give it a go then -
I think I remember seeing somewhere about that. Not sure if it was with any single card they gave a lower rated power brick, but I really do think I remember seeing something about it.
You might wanna check that first.
Or, I might just be thinking of something else completely. -
yes they have 2 different types of power supplies , you'll need a 240 watt power supply in order to use dual graphic cards if you didn't order you laptop with a extreme processor or dual graphic cards you'll probably have a 150 watt (you can check it in the BIOS main screen)
